I am a "practical dreamer". I make wishes all the time. I work on making things happen. I learn lessons along the way. Today I got reminded of this one: Wishes are often one-dimensional. Life isn’t. I like to think of it as a game of Jenga. Everyone who played it knows that it is hard to take a piece out without disturbing the whole construction. Wishes are much the same.Wishing to meet someone? Be prepared for any combination of desirable traits plus some undesirable ones! Wishing for success? May need to give up certain habits, make new ones, and be prepared for constant disappointments along the way. Changing one thing will inevitably lead to a cascade of changes, both pleasant and otherwise. Don’t fight it. Embrace it. Think before taking out or adding a piece. And enjoy the game!

I often encourage people to accept their current situation. For acceptance is the first step towards change. But acceptance is one of the hardest things to prac...tice when life hands us challenges. We want to get over it, deal with it, and move on! Been there, done that. Still do it as a default. But life has taught me time and again that acceptance is courage that fuels the power of change.
