Starting Vitality Practice was key to my healthier outlook about exercise, too. ... Fitness is a trigger for so many moms. There’s a lot of guilt, body shame, and negative comparison baked into fitness. We know we should exercise. We know we SHOULD want to for reasons beyond body shaping and weight loss. But many of us are just too f$#*ing tired. Well, Vitality Practice is helping moms through those feelings. And into action that’s wrapped up with self-compassion. What you’ll never get from me when we exercise together is JUDGEMENT. I already think you’re awesome!

I am a trainer who struggles with body image and still wants to help people. I know this makes me even MORE effective as a coach because I really get it. Self compassion takes work and I work it everyday! 18-months BEFORE the pandemic I shut down my business in Toronto and launched my online fitness community. I was ready for a fresh start. ... I was nervous as hell to change from in-person to virtual. Will people find me? Will they find my offerings helpful? Will I regret this? And mostly. I can’t go on camera!!! That body vulnerability felt paralyzing. Now there are lots of virtual fitness offerings. The pandemic pushed every fit pro to get over their fears and tech worries. But what is a good virtual fitness service for you? Vitality Practicealigns with my mission to help more women move in a way that feels supportive and loving. You won’t hear anything about weight loss, diets, or body shaping. I’m all about intuitive eating and joyful movement. Not about counting macros and tracking steps. I have clients who hired me to help them lose weight. I developed a program, coached them on exercise and eating habits, and showed them what to do. ... Many lost weight. Then they gained it back and felt like crap. Many were never successful at reaching their weight loss goals. I was on the weight loss cycle right there with them. You know when I finally felt the happiest? When I stopped trying to lose weight. When I accepted and loved my body as the physical expression of my unique and beautiful soul I finally felt at peace. My inner transformation brought me to intuitive exercise, meaning I choose how to be active based on how my body is feeling each day. I love pushing myself and seeing my endurance increase. I also love honouring slower exercise when my body needs it. I love practicing balance and core strengthening. I love moving with ease and being able to do whatever I want from a physical standpoint. Today my twin daughters turn 14. This is a photo from when they were 4. Seems like yesterday! I have my daughters to thank for where I am now in my fitness career. They may not realize the impact they've had on me, as they grew up with mommy teaching classes and personal training. I was a stay-at-home mom looking to earn extra income doing something I loved. After getting my bearings as a new mom of twins, I began to think more creatively about how fitness could work as a c...areer for someone like me. I found part-time fitness jobs that I could bring my babies toeither as participants in Mom & Baby classes, or where there was free gym childcare. Suddenly working in the fitness industry was a very realistic option! I recommend a fitness career to any mom looking for flexibility. These girls are growing into such amazing people. Each of my daughters has her own strengths and unique abilities. It’s not easy to be a teen in 2020 but they’re navigating it well. My hope is that they always feel safe and empowered to move their bodies joyfully. One daughter is a bonspiel-winning curler, high ropes fanatic (like in the pic above), mountain biker, and badminton pro. Our other daughter is a Ukrainian dancer who’s performed in Ontario and Manitoba, always happy to take long walks, and consistently beats me on Wii Just Dance. I hope my girls love their bodies and have a positive body image. Or at least get there sooner than I did. Thank you girls, for all the hours of physical activity we’ve enjoyed together. You may not realize it but it bonds us. Even the canoe trip you disliked, you kept a good attitude. Happy birthday H & L. I love you.

Hi! I'm Beth and I realized it's been awhile since I've shared who I am and what I believe in. I'm a working mom. In March I started a new corporate job after being a mom-preneur for 11 years. I am part of the Certification Team at canfitpro meaning I get to work on career and education product development for the fitness industry. I always advocated for a portfolio career - with multiple income streams making up your salary. I still believe in this model and as such, I have ...a few part-time gigs. I sell clean/sustainable #betterbeauty & skincare (Beautycounter), I’m a PRO TRAINER, leading canfitpro's Fitness Instructor Specialist certification. And my biggest passion-I run an online fitness community. As an entrepreneur I had a group fitness, personal training and coaching business. I’ve worked in the fitness industry for over 20 years but it’s only in the last few that I’ve shifted my work AWAY from the pursuit of weight loss and body shaping. My mission now is to support others in finding their own version of joyful movement, with self-compassion, and acceptance. As part of this mission I created an online fitness community called Vitality Practice. It is a weight-neutral, body positive online space with movement videos, live classes, and workshops. Sharing my own body image ups and downs with my clients has opened up some really meaningful discussions. I see myself as a catalyst to help others embrace all that they are capable of, no matter what their size or shape. I'm committed to bringing the body positive movement into the fitness industry from the foundation - where we certify others to lead movement classes, personal train, and coach on healthy eating and behaviour change. I feel normal after today’s workout...is part of an email I got from a Vitality Practice member after she joined our Morning Vitality interval class. What is your new normal and does it include regular physical activity? Your body is meant to move. ... But maybe you’ve forgotten how movement makes you feel more like yourself. If you’ve used exercise primarily to pursue weight loss that’s likely the case. It’s time to find yourself again. And I promise physical activity is a beautiful pathway to lighting a that spark. Detach from a weight loss outcome and feel the joy of movement again. Start small and check in with how you feel during and after. Plan your family dinners so you can shop once & efficiently prep for the best way to come together at the end of a busy day. Plan to strengthen your mind & spirit through a gratitude practice, meditation, or connecting with a friend. Make a plan and allow for flexibility, for sure.
