A big thank you to the thoughtful kindergarten classes and teachers of Rockwood Public School for spreading some Easter Cheer with these beautiful drawings for the residents at Carefor Heath & Community Services.

A very big thank you to the Kindergarten class at Rockwood School who made our residents some very special Valentine's Day artwork and shared some touching messages of love. Your kindness has put smiles on the faces our residents at both Carefor Mackay Centre and Carefor Civic Complex. Thank you.

COVID-19 has increased anxiety and stress levels, especially in marginalized communities. According to a report by the EClinical Medicine journal, non-white people are at a higher risk of being infected with COVID-19, likely attributed to social and economic barriers. For more information and resources on mental health in BIPOC communities, visit Crisis Services Canada at https://www.crisisservicescanada.ca//resources-for-margin/ #BlackHistoryMonth #Diversity #CulturalAwareness #MentalHealth

Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew, cover it with chocolate and a miracle or two? The Candy Man! The sweetest parts of the residents days often comes from a small supply closet tucked into the coffee room. Todd Sullivan and Pat Mathewson are residents of the Pembroke Civic Complex, and together they run the Resident Tuck Shop. From 9am to 7:30pm, residents in need of a sweet treat can go to the coffee room (affectionately known as Snackers). Chips, pop and chocola...te bars are the best sellers, and the proceeds from sales go towards enriching the residents’ lives. The Tuck Shop has purchased an industrial toaster for the kitchen, a sound system for the resident directed bingo games, and often pitches in to help fund special resident activities. This month, the Tuck Shop will be providing a free Kentucky Fried Chicken lunch on Valentine’s Day, just to remind the residents how much they are loved. The Tuck Shop also provides a sense of community and an opportunity to socialize. You can often find a group of residents (and sometimes a staff member or two) sitting in Snackers, munching on snacks and enjoying each other’s company. Nothing washes down an ice cold Pepsi like a chat with a friend.

February is Black History Month. It’s a time to celebrate the contributions and achievements of Black Canadians in Canada. At Carefor, there’s a lot to celebrate and we take pride in our culturally diverse team. In our new Carefor blog, CEO Steve Perry explains how diversity and inclusion are our organization’s biggest strengths, and how we’re committed to building an inclusive culture in all aspects of our work, policies and practices: https://carefor.ca//equity-diversity-...and-inclusion-being-b Keep an eye out not only this month, but throughout the year, as we highlight the voices of our diverse team and clientele. #BlackHistoryMonth #Diversity #CulturalAwareness

In the shadow of COVID-19, reliable transportation services keeping the most vulnerable in our community safe and connected has never been more important. For the Kauffeldts, this service is a matter of life and death. When they connected with Carefor’s transportation service, they had no idea just how much more their family would receive. It has been a challenging year for the hundreds of volunteers at Carefor who make an incredible difference in the lives of our clients. During COVID, some are finding creative ways to connect with residents at Civic Residential Complex and Mackay Residential Centre. This #InternationalVolunteerDay, we’d like to highlight a special couple, Mark and Joanne Floyd from the Pembroke Bible Chapel, who are continuing to spread joy during this time of heightened social isolation. R...ead their full story here: https://carefor.ca/stories/?comaction=story&id=3&sid=78 Thank you to all our volunteers for the work that you do. #Volunteering #StayConnected #SafeatHome #Pembroke #RenfrewCounty #IVD2020 #TogetherWeCan
