Pes Anserinus Bursitis Inflammatory condition of bursa, most common in overweight middle-aged female. when the related muscles are repeatedly used, by doing movements such as bending repetitively . Pes Anserine bursitis causes pain on the inside of the knee,mostly during running or taking stairs. They may experience spontaneous inside knee pain on climbing or descending stairs and tenderness. This causes friction and also increases pressure on the bursa. The bursitis can als...o be due to a trauma, such as a direct hit in the Pes Anserine region. Clinical Features Decreased muscle strength Gait deviations Decreased function Decreased ROM Postural dysfunction/impaired lower extremity biomechanics Physiotherapy Treatment for Pes Anserine to reduce pain the most important thing of all is rest. Avoid stairs, climbing, or other irritating activities to quiet down the bursa and the related pain. Muscle-conditioning exercises (include leg stretching exercises such as hamstring stretch, standing calf stretch, standing quadriceps stretch, hip adductor stretch, heel slide, quadriceps isometrics, hamstrings isometrics). For some time now squats have become the universal execise in everyones regime. However, the argument that stands out the most is "should I be going ass to grass?" Now, the ass to grass statement itself is a little aggressive and does not apply to every population. In fact, getting in a depth below 90 degrees is still considered a deep squat, or perhaps changing your stance from narrow to wide can allow more range of motion. You might ask yourself, " can I ever go to such g...reat depths?" And to that I say yes. Recently when I have my patients squat I have noticed insufficient back musculature activation 1) get a 2.5lbs plate or even a wedge and place it on your heel. The purpose of the weighted plate is to raise your heel up and allowing a more passive range of motion to the ankle joint (dont let this be your end-all to be all) 2) now, if you can get into a deep squat good on you, but if you cant thats alright lets work with what you got and keep progressing every day ... 3) grab a plate or dumbell preferably 5lbs. Arms and shoulder are parallel to the floor. Extend the plate over your head, this results in the shoulder blade to depress and gets the lower trapezius activated 4) remember this is not a shoulder exercise your main focus is the shoulders blades articulation and lower trapezius engagement. A recent study indicates that regular mealtimes and fasting increases levels of the hormone ghrelin, which raises appetite but improves motivation to exercise.
