This month in my membership circle, the Embracing Shakti Temple, our featured theme of the Divine Feminine is EMPOWERMENT. Empowerment can mean many things but at its essence, it is about expressing yourself in an authentic and heartfelt way. Every one of us was born with limitless power, although we just sometimes forget. Let’s face it, as we go through life, we all develop fears and insecurities. That nagging voice in our heads often takes the driver’s seat, creating fant...astic "what-if" worst case scenarios. Why is that so much easier than stepping into our own power? An evolutionary imprint called the "negativity bias" actually goes back to when we were cave people you know, when we had to avoid things like sabre tooth tigers as we gathered food? Thinking the worst in these cases actually helped us survive. But, as humans progressed and life got easier, we didn’t have much use for it anymore, yet it decided to stay encoded in our minds. Naturally wired to think this way, it can make the simplest of modern day interactions difficult. There are many situations that can make us feel powerless. All of our experiences and stories are different. But one truth can unite us all feeling empowered is something we have to learn and then practice on a regular basis. You’ll need patience and determination, but it’s definitely worth it to become the almighty, not to be messed with, goddess you were always meant to be. Here are three things you can start working on now to help build up your self-empowerment: When negative chatter starts to take hold, replace it with a positive affirmation. Keep repeating that phrase until it sticks and becomes true to you. "I know what I’m doing," "I will make a great impression," or "It will all work out for me" are just a few ideas, but it’s up to you to create something you can believe in. Eleanor Roosevelt once said "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission." One step to achieving empowerment is by taking responsibility for your thoughts. Allowing judgements from others to rule your mind, reflects in your behavior. Believe it or not, you CAN choose to brush it off and feel good about yourself. Just because someone has an opinion of you, doesn’t mean it’s true or that you have to agree with it. Adopt the attitude of "I choose to think well of myself" instead. Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness - even you - so start sprinkling it on everything. The more you give it to yourself, the better you’ll feel. Give yourself a break when you’re tired. Take a bath. Buy the lotion or coffee that costs a few dollars more than the cheap brand and so on. Self-kindness can blossom into self-love from which self-empowerment can grow. How do you define empowerment? What have been the tools you've used to express yourself in a more authentic and heartfelt way? Do send me a note and share what speaks to you about this theme.

Overwhelmed. That is the primary response that I hear from so many of my students when I check in with them. And of course it is. The many months of restrictions and lockdowns has been extremely challenging to say the least. When we get overwhelmed, our nervous system becomes dysregulated. The primal threat response kicks in which leads to us to go into defense mode - which often looks like dissociation, checking out and feeling paralyzed. And in our age of technology, we fee...Continue reading

For the past several years I have spent time at the beginning of January feeling into a word, or rather a feeling, that will guide me for the next 12 months. Last year my word was Trust and when I chose that feeling early in 2020, I really had no idea how much I would need to lean into that intention as the year wore on. It was often the lighthouse guiding me in the dark fog and murkiness of the uncertainty that enveloped the world. This year my word is Sovereignty. It is dee...ply personal feeling that speaks to my core desire to be fully autonomous in my body and being. As I attune to this feeling, I have the sense that Sovereignty is like the trunk of my tree and that there are other intentions that form the roots and branches as a result of being more aligned in my own freedom. They include: Empowered, Beauty, Transformation, Sexuality, Wisdom, Compassion, Balance, Creativity, Nourished and Inspiration. Does this describe my current state of being in every now moment? No. But my desire is that this is how I want to feel the majority of the time. And I then choose my actions to be in alignment with these feelings. By staying true to this inner guidance I stand in my Sovereignty. I want you to have this same inner beacon, that is uniquely aligned to your needs and inner wisdom. While 2021 will be a very different year from the last, my sense is that we need to stay grounded in our center and clarity more than ever. Right now the doors to my membership circle, the Embracing Shakti Temple are open at 2020 rates. This is an incredible community of women who are committed to living their truth, trusting their bodies, connecting to their pure raw creative power and amplifying their capacity for pleasure, regardless of what’s happening in the world around them. This can be you. In 2021 we will be exploring many of the themes that I shared above through ceremonies, embodiment practices (from Tantra, Yoga, the Priestess Arts & Qi Gong), live classes & workshops, drum journeys and more. If you are feeling that inner Yes to bring light to a new year of possibilities and have more clarity, ease and pleasure in 2021, grab your spot. Link below.

The fundamental teaching of yoga is that we are all one. And the practices we engage in are meant to help lift the veil of illusion, maya, so that we may truly see that everything is indeed connected and an individual expression of source. From the moment we are born we forget this fundamental truth and this is the cause of our suffering. That we feel separate. That we feel different. That we feel alone. Our sense of separateness creates attachments and aversions. We cling to... our egos and focus on differences in all that we see and experience. This becomes the root of conflict - between individuals, communities and even nations. Our sense of separateness seems more amplified than ever right now. Today especially, on this day of remembrance, I hold the Sanskrit prayer, Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu, close to my heart. It says: May all beings everywhere be happy and free. And may the thoughts and actions of my life help contribute to the happiness and freedom for everyone. There is lots of talk at the moment about a new normal. There is also lots of talk about the New Earth. Without a doubt I choose the second one. I envision a world where each and every person feels seen, affirmed and welcome. The earth is acknowledged as sacred and we all actively protect her. We recognize that we are a part of nature, we trust our body's wisdom and decide for ourselves what our bodies need. An endless flow of abundance is available to all. Love of every kind is celebrated. Reconciliation is a part of each and every day. And that each of us knows in our blood and bones that we are sovereign beings and this is our birthright. So how can we make a difference today and each day moving forward? Take the time to look at each person you meet and soften so you can really see them. To see beyond the outer differences and into that which makes us the same. Into our common humanity. To acknowledge that we are so much more the same than we could ever be different. To remove the veil and return to essence. To remember. (if this message resonates with you and you are curious how you can experience a greater feeling of remembrance and connection to yourself, others and the world around you, post below or send me a DM let's explore how we can make that happen. )

No matter what your political beliefs, the past 24 hours have been a rollercoaster. As the world waits for the US election results in the midst of much chaos, so many of us are feeling unsettled, anxious, and deeply concerned for the future. These are not easy times. I went to bed last night with a huge knot in my stomach. I didn't sleep well. And when I woke up I could just sense the collective heaviness of everything and it was overwhelming. So after I got everyone out the ...door to work and school, I went to walk by the river. I closed my eyes and paused. I felt the earth lovingly supporting me. I placed a hand on my heart and a hand on my belly and I took some deep breaths and whispered prayers. I started to move into my trusted embodiment practices and with every breath I could feel a deeper connection to my inner resource. I started to come back home to myself. I felt such a surge of overwhelming gratitude to have the tools to support myself in this moment of need. That I have a committed and dedicated practice to call upon to help me stay well and resourced. And I want this for you too. For each and every one of you. In just 10 days, starting on November 14th I am offering my 13 Day Embracing Shakti Journey for womxn. Every day you will receive a short and potent video practice (under 10 minutes) that will help you find your center, allow you to feel more relaxation and ease in your body and teach you how to call upon your own inner resource when you need it most. I will be sharing the tools that I use regularly that have helped me navigate stormy waters and have also helped countless others. This journey is also all about support for one another. There will be a private FB community for our group and I will be in there every day live and with daily posts to help keep you on track and cheer you on. Every womxn in the journey will be supported to find the ease, spaciousness and connection she desires. So if you are feeling sad, scared, angry, exhausted, shut-down, anxious or just struggling in an 'I'm not sure why' way, know that I am here to help you. You can click https://www.embracingshaktimovement.com/ to get all the details about the 13 Day Embracing Shakti Journey. Or if you have questions, just aren't sure, or need some personal support right now - send me a DM and share what you are feeling. I promise to reply personally so we can connect and drop deeper together.

The Winter Solstice falls this year on Monday, December 21st. On this day the tilt of the Earth's semi-axis is furthest away from the Sun, creating the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. This is a sacred day that predates Christmas by thousands of years, and is the day where we welcome the merging of the darkest time of the year and the emergence into the newborn light. It also contains a deeply feminine/yin expression and holds the energy of deep mystery a...long with regeneration and renewal. And this year the solstice is made even more potent by the rare conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn, ushering us into the air element/Aquarius which starts a new 20-year cycle. At their closest, the 2 giant worlds of Jupiter and Saturn will appear only 1/5 of a moon-diameter apart. Will they appear to the eye as a merging of 2 bright "stars" (really, planets) into a single, even-more-brilliant "star". It promises to be spectacular. The Winter Solstice is a time where we are reminded of the importance of the empty moments in between. In the haste of our busy lives we can so easily neglect the pause. But on Monday, when the sun stands still, we are reminded to not overlook the pause, but to savour it. On Monday, December 21st from 5:30-8 pm PST, I invite you to gather in community with me to honor this pause together. I'll be leading us through a special Breath of Bliss ceremony to uniquely attune us to the mystical forces of transformation that will be deeply present on this day. This will be an opportunity to move through a presence practice of inquiry, connection and breathwork to witness all the parts of yourself that may have been in the shadows over the past 6 months and to also set intentions to lead you through the next half year with grace and ease. While every breathwork ceremony I have led has been special, I have to say that the Winter Solstice ceremonies have always been both magnificent and magical. If you can't attend live, you will have access to the recording for a month after the event. You can join us here: chinookyoga.com/workshops May you find time to create space on the darkest day of the year to pause, step into the sacred cosmic portal and just let the magic happen.

Happy Halloween/Samhain everyone!!

Carla Wainwright Creatrix 11.10.2020

Calling all witches! This Saturday is Halloween, an evening of costumes and trick or treat delights. Halloween finds its origins in the Celtic holy day Samhain, which will also be celebrated by many on Saturday. Samhain signals the end of harvest and the beginning of the winter, the darkest part of the year governed by the archetype of the Great Crone, or Wise Woman. This day marks the mid-point between the late September Autumnal Equinox (equal day and equal night) and... the Winter Solstice (the shortest day of the year) in late December in the Northern Hemisphere. And this year we will also be experiencing a blue moon - which means it is the second full moon of the month! Samhain is thought to be a liminal moment, when the border between the physical and spiritual worlds is at its thinnest and the supernatural can penetrate our world and be experienced. It is a time when you are invited to connect to ancestral memory and to listen deeply as you revere in its wisdom. Below I share a simple Samhain ritual, which can help you contact and communicate with the otherworld. It is also a powerful way to bring closure to grieving and to honour family members and others close to you that have passed on. SAMHAIN RITUAL Prepare by creating some physical and mental space for yourself that feels special and free of distractions. Have a journal and pen available. Put on some of your favourite black clothes and anoint yourself with some delicious oils or scents. Create an Ancestors Altar. Place photographs, heirlooms and other mementos of deceased family, friends, or even pets. Intersperse the altar with votive candles. Have a bowl filled with chocolate, apples, nuts or other delicious treat as a special food offering dedicated to them. As you light the candles, speak their names out loud and express gratitude for being part of your life or lineage. Close your eyes, drop in and listen. Pay attention to what you experience. Take time to write any messages you receive in your journal. I believe that we all have loving ancestors who want us to fulfill our dharma (highest life path) as happy, whole and fully realized beings. When we honour and acknowledge the importance of our ancestors, these relationships can become a transformative source of healing, support and empowerment in our lives. If this practice resonates with you, post below and tell me more. I'd also love to see a picture of your Ancestors Altar, feel free to post it here too! May you receive healing and blessings in your blood, breath, and bones this Samhain.
