"Sweet Dee the Yorkie" 2020 Acrylic on canvas, 12" x 12" $200 via @bluecrowgallery .... . This year I've decided to take more risks as an artist. 2020 hasn't made this easy, but there have been a ton of virtual shows in place of the in person shows. So when I saw that Toronto's @bluecrowgallery was having a summer group show, I threw caution to the wind and applied. And they accepted! Cue excited dancing! . It was tough to choose between animals and food but ultimately, the best muse was sitting right in front of me.... on my lap. Also, swipe through to see my first ever acrylic portrait of this old lady. . The Blue Crow Gallery will be hosting the show opening reception on July 24 on IG live at 8pm. I'd love if you could make it and check out all the amazing artists that will be showing their work, maybe even pick something up for yourself! . . . #carleemctavish #carleemctavishart #carleemctart #canadianartist #canadianart #ontarioartist #torontoart #torontoartist #hamiltonart #niagaraartists #bluecrowgallery #acrylicart #acryliconcanvas #artforsale #petportrait #yorkie #sweetdeetheyorkie #contemporaryartist #femaleartist #emergingartist #madeincanada #supportlivingartists #niagarafalls #girlsmakingmagic #contemporarypainting #acrylicpainting #yorkshireterrier #ihavethisthingwithcolour #modernmaker #contemporaryart @ Niagara Falls, Ontario See more

"No, Seriously, Don't" 2020 Acrylic on canvas, 12" x 12" $200 (via @niagaraartistscentre #smallfeats2020) .... . Just a friendly reminder that even though numbers are going down, there are still community transmissions of COVID of unknown origin within the Niagara region. Wash your hands, don't touch your face, practice social distancing! . . You can see this piece in the latest issue of @feministspacecamp magazine. Be sure to check out all of resources for BLM at the top of the magazine. The magazine creator did a great job of rounding up resources and places to donate. This piece will also be in the virtual #smallfeats show in the near future. . . . #carleemctavishart #carleemctavish #carleemctart #canadianartist #ontarioartist #niagaraartistcentre #niagaraartists #femaleartist #emergingartist #artforsale #acrylicart #acryliconcanvas #portraitartist #portrait #hamiltonart #torontoart #coronavirus #covid19 #girlsmakingmagic #ihavethisthingwithcolour #selfportrait #feministartist #quarantinelife #donttouchyourface #artoftheday #contemporaryartist #madeincanada #artistsofinstagram @ Niagara Falls, Ontario See more

This piece is not for sale. I ask that you please not share it in your stories. Instead, I recommend you go to my #blackartmatters highlight, and share or purchase from a Black artist, or donate to any of the links in my bio. Want to like this or comment praise? Re-read that last sentence. If you've been a follower for a while and you follow in my stories, then it is no surprise to you that I strongly support BLM. I want something permanent on my feed so that anyone new her...e knows where I stand. I'm acutely aware that silence is violence, but I am also aware that performative allyship is a problem on social media right now. I think it's important to use my privilege to speak up and work towards dismantling the oppressive systems built to uphold the white, cis-hetero, ableist, capitalist patriarchy. As an educator, I've been having discussions on race, gender, and environmental justice since I started teaching. As an arts educator the past three years, I've made it my focus to avoid teaching about the art of straight white dudes (as so much of a typical visual art education in Canada is). HAVING SAID THAT, this conversation is NOT about centering myself or my white feelings, and this post is NOT to establish myself as "one of the good whites". I still have SO MUCH to learn, and unlearn. There are still ways that I uphold white supremacy in my life and in the classroom. As a white woman, I know I would not be where I am today without white privilege. I am committed to building a better tomorrow for those that need it most. I am committed to listening to BIPOC people, amplifying their voices, taking action, being accountable, donating money (hi @niacentre !), and doing the work. I am working on being actively anti-racist. I am working on being a co-conspirator. ..... Continued in comments... @ Niagara Falls, Ontario

"Tiva" 2020 Acrylic on canvas, 12" x 12" NOT FOR SALE .... . This little sausage roll is @sweetdee.theyorkie's BFF from across the street. According to her owner, she didn't know the word, "treat" until I came along . Dee and Tiva like to watch for each other at each other's gate and follow each other around on their walks. She's just the cutest. . . . #carleemctavish #carleemctavishart #carleemctart #painterly #paint #petportrait #dogportrait #niagaraartist #ontarioartist #canadianartist #femaleartist #emergingartist #acryliconcanvas #acrylicpainting #artistsofniagarafalls #art #instaartist #instaart #ihavethisthingwithcolour #instadog #dogoftheday #madewithmichaels #modernartist #contemporaryartist #contemporaryart #artgallery #artistsofinstagram #dog #customportrait #commissionsopen See more
