In this chat session, Beatrice Villadelgado (@bea.villadelgado) interviews Keya Shirali (@keyashirali), where they begin by dissecting Reese Witherspoon’s versatile career. After discussing her roles in films like Legally Blonde and Wild, they then veer towards Reese’s role as a producer and owner of the Hello Sunshine film production company. They analyze her work in Little Fires Everywhere (2020) alongside the phenomenal Kerry Washington, as well as what it took to ...produce a groundbreaking series like that. They then pivot towards topics regarding the representations of race, gender, and sexuality in the film and television industry, both on and off screen. They go in particular detail about the powerful potential of women in an industry that has for a long time been hijacked by culturally hegemonic attitudes, and how those could be subverted. Lastly, Beatrice and Keya talk about the latter‘s own passion for screenwriting, as well as a growing interest towards becoming a film producer, which stems from the desire to unite the talent and voices of many to form an enriching community of creatives.
