Happy International Women’s Day from the WIIS-Carleton team! It is truly a day to celebrate and reflect on the vital role women have played throughout history in bettering our world. Women’s participation in all areas of politics is integral to long-term peace and security, and girls around the world should be encouraged to dream big and to believe they can change the world -- because they can. The plight for women’s liberation has been a long, long battle, in every corner o...f the world. Yet women throughout history have consistently been at the forefront in the fight against racial inequality, gender-based violence, and other forms of bigotry and injustice. Let us honour the sacrifices women in history have made on behalf of us all. Confucius once beautifully said, ‘our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall’. That quote captures the strength, courage, power, and capability women possess in spite of all the obstacles we have and continue to face.

It is an understatement to say it was our honour to hear Deputy Minister of the Department of National Defence, Jody Thomas, for International Women's Day and to leave with a myriad of incredibly valuable insight and wisdom for both men women, both in and outside the field of security and defence! Happy International Women's day!
