SPANISH RESORT COMPANY opening $100M hotel in downtown Toronto. RIU Hotels & Resorts has announced the construction of a hotel in its Riu Plaza urban line, in Toronto, the largest city in Canada and the cultural, business and financial centre of the country. The Spanish company intends to invest around 100 million dollars in the project, that will establish the first RIU hotel in Canada and will add continuity to the hotel company’s plan to expand into the world’s great cities.

The Instituto Italiano di Cultura Toronto (Italian Cultural Institute) and the Design Exchange (DX) hosted a thought-provoking talk by architect Simone Sfriso of Tamassociati, a Venice firm celebrated for its inclusive healthcare projects on the African continent, as well as dynamic public spaces in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. Recent highlights from the studio’s portfolio include a joint project with Renzo Piano to construct a centre for paediatric surgery in Uganda, and the new headquarters in Bologna of Alce Nero, a food company representing more than a thousand organic farmers, beekeepers and food processors.
