Who's ever been told they need to replace an axle shaft? Or maybe just the axle shaft boot? What's a boot anyways?! In this slide of videos, one of our Perth Road Technicians, John, demonstrates what goes into replacing an outer CV axle shaft boot to prevent the axle shaft from eventually seizing! This customer had a small tear in one of the outer rubber boots, leaking grease out. This may sound really minor, but when caught early on, we can get away with just replaci...ng the boot and packing it full of new grease vs. replacing the entire shaft! Who doesn't love saving money? Had this customer said NO to this small repair, he would likely end up back in the shop with a seizing or seized axle shaft (HELLO SAFETY ISSUE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD!!!), costing him a lot more money in the end. (Seized axle shaft = safety issue = break down = unexpected car repairs = bye savings = inconvenience = bad day = you get the point). We're here for you! Get in touch

BLOWN LAND ROVER ENGINE UPDATE Here's a 50 second video of what the engine looks like out of the Land Rover, torn apart for inspection, and ready to start disassembling parts we're salvaging to swap over to the new long block coming from the UK. This looks like absolute chaos - the heart of the vehicle REMOVED. It's in so many pieces but this is an organized mess to our professional Technician, Laurenio!... Have you ever wonderered what really happens to engine oil when it doesn't get changed for 50,000 km? Well, here you have it! Sludge! If you've never seen the consistency of engine oil, it's supposed to be pouring out like water, maybe a little thicker. This oil has been used for way too long and has picked up debris and metal fillings from the engine, causing it to become thick and start to solidify. Ultimately, this engine seized while driving and now we know why. ... Regular oil changes and maintenance are so important!!! Remember that next time we send you that email reminder!!!

"Can you see the bubbles?" "Yep!" What you're watching is the top of a fuel pump sending unit leaking. This customer has a reoccurring Check Engine warning light, that we have been chasing for some time now. When the trouble code you have is "Evaporative Emissions System Leak Detected", you're sometimes in for a lenghtly diagnosis. There are many evap and emissions parts on a vehicle to check, so often we resort to performing a smoke test to try and identify the source of t...he leak. In this case, even a smoke test wouldn't have been able to show us this! Our experienced Technicians sometimes know of common faults with some makes and models, as they've seen an issue happen time and time again. In this case, our Tech knows that the sending units are known to fail on this older model Hyundai Santa Fe, due to rusty fuel tank lock rings that push the sending unit out of the tank, causing the unit to crack. The fun part: there's two sending units on this vehicle! The even more fun part: you have to remove both rear seats to gain access at them to inspect or repair After the customer authorized additional diagnostic time to remove the seats, we were able to confirm the Technician's suspicions, which is such a great feeling! #carmedics #automotiverepairshop #autorepair #diagnostictechnician

Covid-19 Update March 24, 2020.... These are some of the safety measures Car Medics has put in place: CUSTOMER SAFETY ZONE - Inside the front door at both of our locations we have created a roped off section where you can safely speak to us (from 20 ft away), drop your keys off and pick your keys up. Everything else will be performed electronically by email and telephone. This includes us sending you a digital copy of your vehicle's iPAD INSPECTION REPORT ... SHUTTLE SERVICE SUSPENDED - We feel it is not possible to practice social distancing while riding with customers in our shuttle car. LOANER CARS AVAILABLE - We have added 3 more cars to our fleet as of today, and will add more should we need them. THEY ARE PROVIDED AT NO CHARGE! All you have to do is gas them up before returning them. And, more importantly, they are disinfected and ready to go! NO WAITING APPOINTMENTS - We no longer allow customers to wait in our office while their car is being serviced. You can: 1. Drop your vehicle off anytime, after hours or even during the day, and place your key in our drop box without even entering our office. 2. Drop off your vehicle and have a family member pick you up to take you home. 3. Book a loaner car from us - all you will pay for is the gas you use! 4. Make arrangements with us to pick your vehicle up from your home and deliver it once it's been serviced and properly disinfected. KEEP READING! PAYMENTS - We ask that customers either pay by e-transfer or with credit card number over the phone. This will avoid close contact and direct use of our credit card machine. We will continue our strict disinfecting and cleaning policy throughout our building, including all touch points of every customer car and loaner vehicle. SERVICE UPDATE RE: COVID-19 Although many businesses have had to close their doors to keep the community and their staff safe today, we are fortunate to have the ability to remain open and continue to service vehicles as needed. Both of our locations operate with 10 or less employees any given day, keeping the number of people in the building to a minimum. Effective Wednesday, March 18th 2020, neither location will be offering or allowing waiting appointments until f...urther notice. This means that if you need something as simple as an oil change, you need to make arrangements to drop your vehicle off before or after hours, or drop your keys off during business hours, but no one will be able to wait in the office for work to be completed. This is not to push people away, but we are doing the exact opposite - ensuring our office and shop spaces are clean, sanitized, and free of too many people occupying the same space; doing our part to #flattenthecurve. That being said, if you can't drop your vehicle off because you have no one to drop you off or pick you up, we are offering our loaner vehicles out for ALL services. We have 5 vehicles (more will be added if needed) that can be used, and we will ensure they are cleaned and wiped down between each customer. Vehicles will be loaned out on a first come, first served basis. We will accept e-transfers for all customers, and will accept credit cards over the phone for customers who have visited us before. Credit card options will need to be authorized with a senior Service Advisor. KEEP READING! During the concerns regarding Covid-19...... We want to remind our customers that we have an after hours drop off and pick up service at both of our locations should you need vehicle servicing, including winter tire change overs. And, of course, we'll continue with our cleaning and disinfecting policies. We've also recently rolled out our courtesy car program should you end up needing a loaner for service or repairs that take a little longer and you simply can't do without yo...ur car. Also, because the safety of our customers and staff are our top priority, we will be reducing or eliminating while-you-wait appointments as a precaution in order to limit customer to customer and customer to staff contact. Even though we'd love to see you, we have the option to accept etransfer payments and send email reciepts so that you can drop the car off and pick it up without having to actually come all the way in to see us in person. We are very aware of the severity and panic surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, and we want to let all of our customers and followers know that we will continue to remain open for all of your vehicle needs. Some of the steps we are taking to ensure a clean and safe environment include: - No employee will come to work if they are showing or feeling ANY of the Coronavirus symptoms. ... - Extremely frequent handwashing required for all Service Advisors, Technicians and any other staff member. - Daily cleaning and disinfecting of all door handles, countertops, phones, bathrooms and steering wheels. - Offering loaner vehicles for repairs and services to limit the amount of customers waiting in the office. It is encouraged to avoid being in public places with large amounts of people, but we are also realistic that vehicle breakdowns are unexpected, and the majority of people need their vehicle fixed ASAP. We will continue to provide our best customer service and will also accomodate as many customers as we can. It was John's birthday last week, and he received a special delivery at work!!! We of course enjoyed some birthday cheesecake to celebrate John Holmes

1985 Honda Accord still runs like a top!! John Corbett got this car from his aunt when it was only 5 years old and 8,000 km! It now has just over 200,000 km. Car Medics has been taking care of John's Accord and his 1999 Honda CR-V for a number of years now. It just goes to show you that with regular maintenance and rust proofing a car can last a long, long time! That's a tonne of money saved in the bank instead of 36 years of car payments when the alternative is to keep buyi...ng new cars every few years!
