The power of positive thinking! Positive thinking sounds useful on the surface. (Most of us would prefer to be positive rather than negative.) But, positive thinking is also a soft and fluffy term that is easy to dismiss. Research is beginning to reveal that positive thinking is about much more than just being happy or displaying an upbeat attitude. Positive thoughts can actually create real value in your life and help you build skills that last much lo...nger than a smile. Here are some great things to work on so you can stop being a negative nelly. Focus on the good! A lot of positive thinking is re-wiring your brain to think a different way. If you look for the good, you can always find the proverbial silver lining in every cloud even if it’s not immediately obvious. For example, if someone cancels plans, focus on how it frees up time for you to catch up on a TV show or other activity you enjoy. Practice gratitude. We need to do this now more than ever. Practicing gratitude has been shown to reduce stress, improve self-esteem, and foster resilience even in very difficult times. Spend time with positive people. Negativity and positivity have been shown to be contagious. Consider the people with whom you’re spending time. Practice positive self talk. We tend to be the hardest on ourselves and be our own worst critic. Over time, this can cause you to form a negative opinion of yourself that can be hard to shake. To stop this, you’ll need to be mindful of the voice in your head and respond with positive messages, also known as positive self-talk. Start every day on a positive note! Create a ritual in which you start off each day with something uplifting and positive. Listen to your favourite song, look at yourself in the mirror and say confidently, "This is going to be a great day! Let's do this!" See more

Happy Saturday! Let's focus on some SELF CARE and why it is so important. No matter how indulgent or fancy the term may sound, self-care is crucial for our physical, emotional and mental well-being. You shouldn’t neglect self-care and here's why: Know your worth: It is important to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself as it produces positive feelings and boosts your confidence and self-esteem. ... A healthy work-life balance: Contrary to common belief, workaholism is not a virtue. Overwork, and the accompanying stress and exhaustion can make you less productive, disorganized and emotionally depleted. It can also lead to all sorts of health problems, from anxiety and depression to insomnia and heart diseases. Start living, stop existing: Life is a precious gift. So why waste it when we have the choice to have a more meaningful existence? Yes, you have a lot of responsibilities fixing the dryer, paying bills, etc. But it’s important to remember that taking care of yourself is also your responsibility. Better physical health: Self-care is not just about your mental health. It’s also about caring for your physical self, by eating healthy, getting adequate sleep, caring about your hygiene, exercising regularly, etc. One of my favourite ways to take care of myself, is to carve out a little "me" time during the day so I can do the things I enjoy. The biggest health threat from smoke is from fine particles. Smoke is made up of a complex mixture of gases and fine particles produced when wood, other organic materials, houses, cars and more, burn. These microscopic particles can penetrate deep into your lungs. They can cause a range of health problems, from burning eyes and a runny nose to aggravated chronic heart and lung diseases. Exposure to particle pollution is even linked to premature death. So if coronavirus wasn't... enough, wear your mask! Who is at greatest risk from wildfire smoke? People who have heart or lung diseases, and people who have asthma. Older adults are more likely to be affected due to their increased risk of heart and lung diseases. Children are more likely to be affected by health threats from smoke since their airways are still developing and they breathe more air per pound of body weight than adults. Here is how you can protect yourself and others: Keep track of air quality ratings in your area to assess risk. Minimize exposure by staying indoors as much as possible. Protect your indoor air quality by keeping windows and doors closed. Don't burn candles, or use aerosol spraysthey're all sources of indoor pollution. Avoid unnecessary exercise or exertion outdoors. If you use a rescue inhaler, keep one on hand. Pay close attention to symptoms and seek medical help at the first sign of trouble. Stay safe and stay smiling Vancouver.
