We have lost a legend The College of Rock and Roll Knowledge has just learned that Little Richard has passed away. He was 87 years old. Little Richard was one ...of the first to show the world how to Rock and Roll. He inspired so so many. He was one of those that started all of this. RIP Richard. We owe you so much. And Thank You!

It was four years ago today that the music world lost Prince. He had his demons that got the best of him. Forbes Magazine reported that Prince sold more music t...he year after his death than any other artist. In the past few years, have you found yourself listening to more of his music than you did before he died? RIP Prince. You are missed by so many.

It seems every generation has its musical spokesman. The 'grunge' generations foremost performer and many would say their spokesman was undoubtedly Kurt Cobain ...of Nirvana. If Kurt was still with us, he would have turned 53 years old today. But, Kurt, like so many talented people had his demons. Kurt took his own life on April 5, 1994. Kurt was only 27 years old. The '27' club has taken so many in their prime. Happy Birthday Kurt. We wish we could have heard more.

When watching Ben Lacy play, you tend to look for the bass- and the second guitar player. But he's alone doing all of it simultaneously.

It was just 6 years after The Beatles first time on The Ed Sullivan Show... On Feb 9, 1970, The Doors released their 5th LP titled "Morrison Hotel". Morrison Ho...tel consists of music recorded between August 1966 and November 1969. The cover photo was taken at the actual Morrison Hotel located at 1246 South Hope Street in Los Angeles by the legendary photographer Henry Diltz. The band asked the owners if they could photograph the hotel and they declined, so the band went inside when nobody was looking and took the photograph. The rear cover features a photograph of the Hard Rock Café on 300 East 5th Street, Los Angeles. The founders of the later and otherwise unrelated Hard Rock Cafe chain used the name, having seen it on the Doors' album. The original cafe is no longer open for business. Happy 50th birthday to "Morrison Hotel"!!!

The Jimi Hendrix Experience began recording "Purple Haze" on January 11, 1967, at De Lane Lea Studios in London. The basic track was recorded in four hours. Wi...th 'Purple Haze', Hendrix was looking for a sound and just kept going back into the studio, two hours at a time, trying to achieve it. On Feb. 3, 1967, Jimi and his manager Chas Chandler took the four-track tape to Olympic Studios for overdubbing. At Olympic, they were assigned engineer Eddie Kramer. It was one of the first times Olympic let Eddie do a session by himself as an engineer. Jimi and Eddie hit it off from the very start. Unlike the conventional techniques used by the Experience to record previous songs, Kramer and Chandler decided to try out new effects and sounds for "Purple Haze". Kramer enhanced background sounds by playing them back through headphones, which were moved around the recording microphone, creating "a weird echo". He also used sped-up guitar parts recorded at half-speed (which also raises the pitch) and panning to create novel effects. The guitar solo features the first use of the Octavia guitar effects unit. The Octavia doubles the frequency of the sound it is fed, essentially adding an upper octave. Jimi Hendrix met Eddie Kramer 53 years ago today. It was a musical partnership that would last the rest of Jimi's life. To this day, the Hendrix estate still trusts Kramer to handle the release of old recordings that Jimi recorded with him. (We are pretty sure this picture was not taken when they first met, but it shows Jimi and Eddie working together).

Yet he l...eft us at only 27 years old on July 3, 1971. What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear Jim's name or The Doors? Happy Birthday Jim. Wherever you are, as you will always be with us.

Stevie Ray Vaughan would have been celebrating his 65th birthday today. We from time to time say something like "we can describe him in just 5 words...He was St...evie Ray Vaughan". As you can imagine we get a number of people giving us crap for not going into great detail when we do that. The staff and faculty here at The College of Rock and Roll Knowledge are pretty confidant that if you're seeing this post, you are well aware of what Stevie did. So, with that said... We can best describe him with just 5 words.... He Was Steve Ray Vaughan. Happy Birthday Mr. Vaughan. RIP. Return If Possible.

The legendary Buddy Rich would have turned 102 years old today. Now we know there will be some of you who will say 'why is Buddy on a Rock and Roll site'.. It'...s simple. Try to name a Rock and Roll drummer who wasn't influenced by Buddy. We lost Buddy on April 2, 1987 when he was only 69 years old. He was one of the greatest ever. Happy Birthday Buddy. We wish you were here so we could ask you just one question. "how the hell did you do that?" (And how many of you remember the days when Buddy and his band would play concerts along with rock bands. The Legendary Bill Graham loved to put Buddy and his band on bills with more 'current' bands. People loved it. The New Buddy Rich Band is still out there with Buddy's daughter Cathy Rich singing and the incredible Gregg Potter in Buddy's seat. The staff here at The College of Rock and Roll Knowledge would really like to see current promoters put together shows these days like Bill did.)
