Another great day , another floor surface to be sheathed over and more perfect 90 degree cut lines to be marked, quick , easy and accurate, thats the way we like to do it.
The walls are all up and the floor joist are installed, the floor sheathing will be delivered soon and the Protractor will be back in action, for marking 90 degree cut lines on the floor sheathing.
The pre-cut , door and window parts are moved from the garage and placed in the pre-cut wall sheathings, for each wall package.
As with our previous project, all the wall plates are on the floor, ready for wall fabrication, the sheathing is all pre-cut and the parts for the windows and doors are all cut setting in the garage. Also the floor joists for the next floor are all pre-cut, ready to install, once the walls are built.
As I stated in previous posts, this Protractor has 1279 possible, degree settings, and it is used at the 90 degree setting for marking cut lines for doing floor sheathings , before this Protractor, a dry wallers T square was used for this application, the down side of the T square , the connection of the T to the blade , would loosen and cut lines, would no longer be square, this tool has a superior locking mechanism, that is dependable and consistent, at whatever degree, is to be used.
The barring walls have been erected, and the joists have been installed, the Protractor is back in action, used for marking the floor sheathing, 90 degree cut lines.
Before we can take advantage of the time and money saving of the Protractor, first the basement knee walls need to be constructed, while these walls are being framed , the next floor walls are being, measured, marked, cut and stacked in the order needed, for assembly, once the floor sheathing is placed. The studs for the basement barring walls are all graded and ready for cutting, they have arrows on them showing the crowned side and if they are not acceptable they are marked with an X showing not to use , straight ones have an arrow going towards the end.
These guys have taken my parking spot, concrete truck bullies. Too all my friends and supporters please have a sunny and great day:).
The exterior is completed , the interior partition are laid out and ready for approval.
These cornice returns, add great effects to this project.
The front of the house, will also need a couple cornice returns and a small roof built across the front of the garage. The roof covering are added as well.
The front of the house also has a large planted dormer, the same procedure is followed as in the previous post.
There is a small bump out on the back of the house, this creates an intersecting roof, the valley set trusses are set using a piece of 1x4 , two lines are snapped in the valley one is the intersection of the sheathing and the other is for 1.5 solid valley blocking.
The planted dormers now have to be framed and the combination roof sheathing applied, for the framing, all the cuts and lengths for the pieces, as well as the procedure for the application can be found in the unpublished works, Simplifying The Framing For Roof Truss Systems This is a planted dormer for the back of the house, all the sheathing was pre-cut using the Protractor to lay out the cuts, this is a 6/12-6/12 roof combination 48-1/8th degree for setting on the Protractor. There are two chalk lines snapped in the valley, one is the sheathing intersection of the two roofs and the second lower one is the line for placing solid valley blocks.
The roof is mostly completed, the garage roof, intersects on to the main roof, all the angled sheathing cuts were laid out using the Protractor, the degree used for this intersection roof sheathing is 48 and 1/8th of a degree, the roof is 6/12-6/12 equal slope roof combination.
Roof Truss Gable Ends , were sheathed quickly and easily, thanks to the Protractor, and the roof trusses were erected in a snap!
The roof trusses are now on-site.
Roof Gable-end Sheathing is cut in advance of the roof trusses delivery.
The back basement wall and front and side knee walls are now ready for the sheathing to be prepped.
The garage sheathing is now being prepped, the Protractor is used to mark cuts for the pre-cutting for the garage sheathings.
This project is coming together well, walls are almost complete.
As some walls go up ,this makes room for other walls to be prepped, its the same practice, the sheathing is all pre- cut and stacked so the first piece that is needed is on the top of the pile , top row fits between windows , bottom row runs straight through, the bottom of the windows are cut out after placement and those pieces fill in the top of the windows.
Wall construction is progressing, thanks to organization and the Protractor Square.
Although this Protractor has 1279 possible degree incremental settings we use the 90 degree setting, when doing our wall framing, the sheathing for each wall package is pre-cut , bottom row goes straight though , top row is cut to fit between the window and doors, later the bottom row is cut out where the windows are and that piece fills the top of the window. The pieces are stacked in the order that they will be needed and all the parts for filling the windows and doors are stacked on top of the sheathing for each wall area.
Yesterday, Shawn used the Protractor for laying out cut lines for the floor sheathing, on our current framing project.
The roof is done thanks to the help of the Protractor, it went amazingly well, being short staffed, having the Protractor is likened too, a hockey game and having home ice, the fans are like having an extra player on the ice, well the Protractor is like having an extra worker on site.
Cruickshanks Construction, worker is recuperating after the air staple incident, leaving the roof to be finished of by one worker, and once again thanks to the Protractor, things went much faster.
Cruickshanks Construction had a worker, shoot a staple in his leg today , which left them short one worker , leaving this roof project to be done by one person , that person was thankful for having the protractor to speed up the job.
All the gable end sheathings for this project were pre-cut and laid out using the protractor, the roof trusses were not on site at the time the cuts were made.
PATENTED TECHNOLOGY In this video it will be demonstrated how, Hip And Valley Equal And Unequal Slope Combination Roof Sheathing, can be pre-cut, with very little measuring on the roof. All pieces were pre-cut on the ground ahead of placement. With 1279 possible setting, there is barely an angle that can't be achieved using the CGPS.
