This doll cradle is ready for a special little girl. Made from virgin white pine from one of the oldest homesteads in the area and a dark strip of wood from a salvaged piano....:)

The Madawaska Annual Fall Studio tour has been cancelled...but we in Wilno are still here, still friendly and happy to have you come by. A customer brought me two large slabs of white pine that were taken from a tree on their cottage property that they had to remove when they expanded their cottage, about four years ago. They think that the tree was planted about 70 years ago when their family first developed the property. One slab is about 2.5 feet across that the other is a bit smaller......they were about 4" thick. This is what they looked like at the beginning after removing the bark. They now look like this. The larger of the two will be a hanging piece of wall art, the smaller one likely an occasional table. The "bow ties" that you see in the wood are cherry and will keep the piece from further splitting. Counted the rings....it had been planted almost 70 years ago. Had not attempted this before....it was a fun project....:)

This is the "sea life" chess set with board. Pieces include sea shells for pawns, octopus, seahorses, corals, dolphins and sharks. Cathy Peck saws each piece individually from 1.5" x 1.5" blocks of local pine on her Excalibur saw in the shop. The board is made of pine and cherry and the pieces can be stored in a low box that fits inside the under-side of the board. Sets also available include the "woodworkers set", "happy bugs set" as well as more traditional and classic sets. The sets and boards are sold as a set or can be purchased separately.

This little horse now resides in Edmonton....:).
