Carrier Sekani Family Services has officially opened the Sk’ai Zeh Yah Youth Centre in downtown Prince George. The name means Children of Chiefs in Carrier and the youth centre is a resource to help children and youth when they have nowhere else to go or no one else to turn to. For Rob and Ciana Rivey, Sk’ai Zeh Yah Youth Centre symbolizes a journey that has come full circle. They both faced challenges while growing up, and Ciana was under the care of CSFS’ own Flint Keil ...while he was a social worker with the provincial Ministry for Children and Families. Rob and Ciana own Rivey Renovations, and the pair were instrumental in transforming a former garage into the youth centre, creating a safe space for children and youth who may be facing challenges similar to those they overcame. People become social workers to make a difference, says Keil. To witness how Rob and Ciana are now able to give back, is remarkable. It’s everything, he says.
