With the daily changes at Canada revenue I wanted to remind everyone the new filing deadline is June 1st. If you owe you have 3 extra months to pay but you must file by June 1st. We are caught up on personal tax returns so give us a call to get your taxes in on time. I am even in the office today until 5 pm and at least 6 pm every day next week.
Apparently financial services are essential so we can stay open. People need to file for subsidies and need their taxes done or proof of a T4 to file or self employment income. So please call ahead before you come to the office as we will arrange to only have one person in the office at a time. Thanks and stay safe.
Well we may not be essential services so not open to the public. I will be in the office all week though as I have lots of corporate taxes to work on. We do have a drop slot by the door so you can drop off your tax information 24/7 and we can get to it right away as we are caught up on everything that is already in the office. You can also email me PDF copies and we can get it done that way as well. Lets process those refunds as quick as possible.
Some information to consider. Government help is coming via your online CRA account
We are caught up on personal tax returns but I will be in the office working on corporate tax if anyone wants to drop off their taxes. If the door is locked we ...do have a drop slot by the door. Call for appointments to sign. We can email you PDF copies of your tax returns and CRA is allowing us to accept digital signatures now so you can sign from home. The extra month to file doesnt mean you should wait for your refunds. Use your down time effectively and get your tax info ready for us. See more
Even though CRA extended the deadline to file, if you expect a refund you should get your taxes filed ASAP so you can get that money in your hands. At the moment it is taking 8 days to get your refund once accepted as filed. We at Carstairs accounting are not taking any time off still working hard to get those taxes filed as usual. Give us a call if you need our help.
We are filing personal tax returns daily now. We are having next day turn arounds at the moment so come in now to get your refunds back quickly.
Good reason to use a professional
As of January 1, 2019 all CPAs are required to fill 4 hours of training in regards to ethics in business. Might sound strange but as a CPA we aRe required to do a minimum of 20 hours per year and 120 hours over 3 years to maintain our education. The CPA association has now been dictating what courses we must take to have similar standards as a CPA. This gives the public confidence that when you see someone with the CPA designation you can trust their education and integrity. I just completed my 14 more hours of education over the last week to keep on top of the issues to serve you better.
There will be changes...
We are closed until December 16th
The office Will be closed December 2 to reopen December 16. We will be in the office late everyday this last week of November, so if you need something let us know right away or we will talk to you again December 16th.
The CRA will NEVER etransfer refunds!
Its Official Folks, Philip Cortens CMA has retired and Carstairs Accounting has purchased his practice as of October 31, 2019. We will be transitioning all his clients over to us immediately. Notice will go out in the paper next week and letters to all his former clients. Its going to get a lot busier around here this spring but we hope to add capacity to accommodate the increased volume.
Thank you Mountain View County!
So this book is 2500 pages of onion paper that most tax accountants use about 10% of and have to look the rest up. One reason you should be using a CPA is that we have to have a minimum of 4 days of professional development every year just to keep up on changes after years of education. Hopefully that commitment alone can convince you of the value of using the CPA over someone who hangs their shingle out there and calls themselves a book keeper/ accountant.
Received my Gas bill for the office today. It was a pretty mild August and I had the furnace off for the entire month. Gas is still used for hot water but that is minimal in an office. The total bill was $46.38, of that Cost of Gas was 0.99, Fixed admin fee =9.16, Fixed delivery charge=25.11, variable deliver charge=0.79, Town of Carstairs fee=6.96, rate riders 2.27 and then GST of 2.21. Thank Kenney and the UCP I didnt still have carbon tax as well, but that seems ridiculou...s to have $1.78 in actual goods used or 4% of the cost is directly responsible for what I used. March Bill was $217.52 with $49.29 as carbon tax while 91.59 was direct gas and delivery charge for 42% of the bill directly in my use. Problem is with our northern climate I cant control how much I really need to keep the building at room temperatures. I appreciate that you get what you pay for but its hard to appreciate admin fees, rate riders and franchise fees. My rant for the day. See more

CARBON TAX - dont bother calculating what you paid in carbon tax for any accounting purposes. There is nothing you or your accountant can do with it.
Down to the final week before the tax deadline. More taxes going out than coming in at last. Still processing several new ones a day. So if you havent been in yet dont worry we can still get them done.
You may be able to claim chocolate as a business expense in some circumstances...ask your Chartered Professional Accountant!
Hey little Doggy! Were heading into the home stretch for the April 30th personal tax deadline.
If you have an online account, the CRA will send you an email advising you to check your account. This letter is definitely a scam.
