Winterfest 2020 Special Thank you’s to the Castlegar Fire Department, Robson Fire Department and the Ootischenia Fire Department! With your help Santa’s Reindeer were able to take a much needed break. Santa made special stops at all the Castlegar elementary schools this year as well as many day cares and preschools. Santa even made a quick stop at our local highschool! The Winterfest Committee which is comprised of Anna and Ashley from the Chamber of Commerce, Bree from the City of Castlegar and Heather from the Castlegar & District Recreation Department would like to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas!

In an attempt to keep patrons safe and control traffic going into the Complex during the Rotary Christmas Tree Sales. We are asking that everyone purchasing trees and going into the pool/ fitness, please follow this traffic map and use the main parking lot entrance. The entrance by the ball field is to be used by the arena patrons and people going to the compost area only.

Castlegar’s annual Winterfest celebrations will look different this year but don’t worry, Santa Claus is coming to town. The parade of lights, the lighting of t...he tree, family entertainment, visits with Santa at City Hall, and breakfast with Santa at the Castlegar & District Recreation Complex have been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions and the community’s continued efforts to slow the spread. Santa plans to visit schools and daycares in early December to deliver holiday greetings, collect letters to Santa to take back to the North Pole with him, and share a small, locally-made gift made by Selkirk College with all children. Ho, ho, hoooo, I’m really looking forward to seeing all the kids again, says Santa, It’s been a tough year and I’ll be to Castlegar as soon as the elves finish making a mask that’s large enough to cover my beard while not fogging-up my glasses. The Winterfest Committee has partnered with the Castlegar News and FortisBC to boost community spirit by bringing a Making Spirits Bright initiative to Castlegar. Making Spirits Bright will launch Tuesday, December 1 stay tuned for more details & great prizes. The Winterfest Committee includes the Castlegar & District Recreation Complex, the Castlegar and District Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Castlegar.
