Castlegar ReStore 26.12.2020

Over the past year our homes have transformed into offices, schools and, for the lucky few, places of refuge. This year more than ever, Habitat for Humanity Canada wants to know, what does home mean to you? The annual Meaning of Home writing contest that encourages students in grades 4, 5 and 6 to share what home means to them through a poem or short essay is back and open for submissions at meaningofhome.ca. The contest runs from January 4 to February 19, 2021 and three grand prize winners, one from each grade, will receive a $30,000 grant to be directed to the local Habitat home build of their choice. https://meaningofhome.ca/

Gain valuable transferable skills as a student volunteer! From point of sale and customer service to furniture repair, Habitat for Humanity ReStores offer a multitude of volunteer opportunities geared toward individual interests and skills. By giving your time, you help your Habitat ReStore do more to support building projects that benefit families in your community. Volunteers also enjoy a fantastic work atmosphere!! Habitat for Humanity volunteers both on construction sit...es and in Habitat ReStores continuously help families in their local communities build a decent and affordable place to call home. Volunteers provide support to Habitat ReStores in a wide variety of ways. ReStores strive to keep operating costs as low as possible to maximize the amount of money that goes directly to benefit your community, and volunteers are one of the ways to achieve this. Volunteers also help ensure every ReStore is a great experience for donors and shoppers by: Creating decorative displays DIY projects Customer service Stocking store shelves Unloading trucks Furniture repair and refurbishing Helping with donation pickups Pricing inventory Organizing the ReStore and the warehouse Cashier Sales floor associate Merchandiser

Habitat for Humanity Southeast BC is very pleased to announce the appointment of Elaine Pura to the role of Executive Director, effective October 1, 2020. Elaine will be taking over the position from Robert Bob Huff, who is retiring after serving in the role for more than five years. During his tenure Bob oversaw the construction of the Habitat homes in Grand Forks, the opening of a ReStore in Castlegar, and the move into a downtown location for the Grand Forks ReStore. He also made significant strides in building partnerships throughout the West Kootenay/Boundary region. Bob has done an excellent job in establishing a foundation for our Habitat affiliate and supporting our expansion into the West Kootenays, states board chair Neil Coburn. read more... https://www.hfhsebc.org//HfHSEBC-ExecutiveDirectorAnnounce
