A popular topic this year: working from home. CRA has introduced a new method this year! You can now choose to claim $2 a day that you worked from home up to a maximum of $400 for the year without getting a T2200 form signed by your employer. You may also choose to complete the detailed method like previous years which you do need a T2200/T2200S form filled out by your employer. This method requires the square footage of your office space over your whole house. This gives... you a percentage of your expenses you can claim. For a salary/hourly employee you can include power, water, gas, internet, repairs and rent. For a commission employees you can include everything from the salary/hourly plus home insurance and property taxes. You cannot claim mortgage interest under either. If you have any further questions, please send me a message. https://www.canada.ca//line-/work-space-home-expenses.html

I have had a lot of questions regarding the increased child benefits for May. The amounts have now been updated and you can log into your CRA account to check.

Just a reminder, if you are receiving the Canada Child Benefits to try and get your taxes completed by April 30 so there isn't a delay in your benefits starting July. If you file after April 30, they cannot guarantee that your July payment will be processed on time.

It has been quite the tax season so far. I want to thank everyone who has adapted to my new ways this year. The emailed returns are working very well! I want to encourage everyone who hasn't filed yet, to still try and get them done within April if possible. I was able to get child care for my oldest child this month so it's much easier to work without her home, next month she will be back at home and I will be trying to focus more on her to make it easier on her. Please note, just because you filed your return earlier then the due date, that does not make your payment due any sooner, payment will still be due September 1. I'm trying to turn tax returns around within a day so you can get your refunds as soon as possible as well. Currently they are still taking approximately 1.5 weeks from date of filing if you have direct deposit.
