-GREY ZONE UPDATE- . Well, there isn't much to say here. This is not my personal page so I will stuck to the facts; . We are closed to all members and clients as of early Monday mornings. FOBs will not work. Begging will not work. Bribes will possibly work (j/k probs).... . We will be closed for a minimum of 28 days as per the provincial guidelines. . You can all still stay super fit and not at all be affected by anything around you including seasonal depression by doing this thing we've heard about called a "pivot". We will be looking into this further to figure out what the hell that means and why everyone is so excited for it. . Good luck out there, friends. Stay safe See more

It's that time of year again. . The salt from the sidewalk wreaks havoc on our clean black floors, and also fills Bryan with a deep, flowing rage that can only be diffused by fisticuffs. . This is a different poster than years past, because this year Bryan has been putting himself through rigorous training. In previous years Bryan was always weary when anyone other than small children or the elderly wore outside shoes, as that is the percentage of the population that he could... probably best in combat. . Don't be ho-ho-horrible this holiday season and be sure to bring a change of shoes, or risk a unblockable, almost unseeable crane kick sneak attack during your last set of bicep curls, you filthy animal. Coming to terms with the changes in our forseeable future is something we have all had to do lately. . Take @anthonyromaniw for instance.. incredibly accomplished medium distance runner at not only the Pan Am Games, but also the last Olympic Games as well. . Training was going well for Anthony until Covid smashed through his plans, like an aggressive Kool Aid man through the kitchen wall of an unsuspecting child.... . But the difference is that Anthony didn't say, "OOOOH YEAAAAAAH", but rather, OOOOH NOOOO". . But, being who he is, he didn't take this lightly. He began his pivot into the world of professional apple bobbing. . As you can see, training is going really well. He wants to break the world record of 31 apples in 1 minute. Check out one of his main training exercises, "The Behind the Back Slow Motion No Hands Risky Bob" . Beautiful pivot, Anthony. Beautiful pivot. . Well, we've been pretty mature lately, so here's us getting back to basics and celebrating the true meaning of Christmas. Sorry @dundurnwellnesscollective .. haha, you signed the lease to be beside us.. technically not our fault.

Catalyst 21.11.2020

With the coming of the beautiful winter holidays, we couldn't help but notice how amazing @dundurnwellnesscollective front window is; the fake snow, the tiny houses, the lengths of lights made to look like the Great Christmas tree. . And then, there's us. We were initially planning on leaving all of the cobwebs to resemble some sort of arachnid garland, but someone cleaned our windows last week. . So, @lindsayjkling , @k_les , amd @strengthwithelissa how do we spiffy up our holiday window? Also, if you'd all like to take the reins on this project, feel free. You really shouldn't leave this up to @alandrichter and Bryan.

Finding appropriate signage on the internet is hard. . Ok, so watching the gym the last few days has led us to make the decision that we will no longer be taking on new members. We mentioned before that we would consider off hour members, but we are going to hold off on bringing anyone else in at this time. We want to thank everyone for their patience as we all navigate these absolutely ridiculous sequence of events. . To our current members, you're amazing and we can't thank... you enough. Seriously, big props. . Your physical and mental health has always been our number 1 priority, and we don't want to make anyone uncomfortable by having close to 10 people in here at once. . To everyone emailing about a space to train until your gym opens back up.. do we mean nothing to you?! . WE WON'T BE YOUR SIDE GYM. WE WON'T BE TOSSED ASIDE ONCE YOUR BIGGER, BEAUTIFUL GYM OPENS BACK UP. WHAT DO WE LOOK LIKE? TREAT US WITH RESPECT. WE WANT TO BE TAKEN OUT TO DINNER AND TREATED TO LOBSTER BISQUE, NOT LEFT ALONE AT HOME WITH OLD KRAFT DINNER. . j/k. But, no memberships for you. See more

Today we got the opportunity to go visit our friend @builtbybarry at his brand new gym, @liftbinbrook . Super clean facility with all the equipment you need. . We got a good lift in today, and then Bryan tossed Barry 50 bucks to use his photoshop skills to give Bryan bigger muscles. He needed the confidence boost after Barry out lifted him.. by a lot. .... Go give him a follow. He has great content and really knows his stuff. . And yes we had to give the 2 default trainer poses. See more

Out with the old, and in with the new. . Since we opened, we adopted "The Studio" sign from All Canadian Fitness when Ernie left us. Finally, 7.5 years later, we decided that its time for it to come down. . As much as we love the sign, brand consistency is something something @imaginemediahamilton told us.... . Come on by and give the new sign a touch! . Is that weird? Just do it. Come touch our sign. See more

Albert Spinestein is going virtual! . We've decided to follow suit. @revive_physiotherapy has been holding virtual appointments for clients since the beginning of the pandemic, and we've decided to join him. . Whether it's powerlifting, running, mobility/soft tissue work, movement rehab or overall strength, we've got you covered. . Call or text 289-775-8337 if you want to get more info. See more

As personal trainers, we consistently see clients through the doors at Catalyst who suffer from prohibitive nerve pinches and bodily discomfort, much of which is from the simple and repetitive task of sitting at home, at the office, or on their commutes. This is why we created The Sitting Solution: Why we hurt, and what we can do about it. This 40+ page guide is an absolute must-have if you or your loved ones count onwards from hour five hours in a chair most days.... Cover to cover, you’ll find highly detailed instructions and how-to graphics to achieve proper stretches, exercises, and postures to both repair and prevent sitting-related injuries in the future. The book is a distillation of hundreds of potential exercises designed to reduce joint, muscle, and nerve pain as a result of too much sitting, but we were determined not to overwhelm the home user. These are normal movements that require no weights and should do wonders for your posture and for your pain. You will walk taller, and it probably won’t hurt to jog across the street like it used to. Your body will become more balanced, and you won’t come home and let out that long sigh when you get to sit down on the couch. Life will be easier, and that’s what we all want, isn’t it? You can get your copy of The Sitting Solution in digital download at www.catalyst-spt.com/thesittingsolution or pick up a hard copy at the studio Catalyst SPT, #10 318 Dundurn Street South, Hamilton, Ontario, or by calling 289-386-8655.

Let's talk for a minute about nutrition. Sometimes formal education or personal biases get in the way of giving actual, real life results to clients who are new to the healthy eating game. . We've always found that it's best to start small. Not asking a client to completely revamp what they eat, log their food and cut out all the crap, but rather to make small changes, get used to those and go from there. . You have to put yourself in their shoes. They are coming to you as th...e expert. If you force them to make 20 changes, sure that will produce short term crazy results, but the client hasn't done anything to improve their relationship with foods or gain an education as to why they have been asked to cut everything out, other than strictly to lose a lot of weight, quickly. . Food for thought. Mutrition Monday or whatever. See more

Last night at approximately 10pm the city of Hamilton rolled out new guidelines that all gyms/recreational facilities in Hamilton must adhere to immediately; . From the moment you enter the studio until you leave, masks must be worn at all times. . Add to that, physical distancing must increase to 3m during exercise and 2m if you are resting between sets.... . Thank you all for being responsible and following the provincal guidelines. . We consider ourselves lucky that we are able to stay open and give you a space to get stronger and increase your overall immunity. . We highly recommend that you stay away from intense physical exertion inside these walls while wearing a mask. The risk vs. reward when wearing cloth fabric covering your nose and mouth while rapidly attempting to fill your lungs with air is far too high and not what your body was meant to do. If you're feeling as though you cannot catch your breath, please walk outside, take your mask off and breathe. . Keep the sprints and tough cardio sessions to open spaces outside if at all possible. One more time, we thank each and every one of you for sticking with us through these unbelievably weird times.

After recently chatting with a young person that spoke highly of the informative content on our social media, we are going to be giving all of you more content in that regard. We are finding far too much misinformation in this industry, and we need to be a part of the solution to that. So! now it's up to you. Please send us your questions so we can happily answer them on "Just the Tip Tuesdays."

TRAINER SPOTLIGHT! . Today, we want to introduce you to Matt. . Matt has been with us for many years. He was hired at Catalyst a few years after his mother unfortunately kicked him out of their family home because of how beautiful and silky his hair was.... . Matt was a transient for a while after that. He traveled from city to city picking up whatever hair modeling gigs were available. There was a period of time where Matt grew his hair out and decided to cut it to give it to local wig shops to make wigs. . Unfortunately because of the popularity of Matt's locks, the wig shops were overrun with women (think Black Friday in the states, but multiply that by 14) and many people were injured, so Matt vowed for the safety of the people that he would keep his hair on his head. . "With Great Pow-hair Comes Great Responsibility." . Matt has since learned that his mother was simply jealous, and they have since made amends and are super besties now. See more

Is it Tuesday? Is it JUST THE TIP TUESDAY?! . Yes. Yes it is. . Todays tip is about movement. When you engage in certain activities, whether it be full body bootcamps, running, etc, your body gets very used to creating explosive power and not really absorbing force properly.... . Many of the movements incorporated in these activities don't take into account connective tissues and joint health. That's a big reason why we are seeing more and more injured people coming in to see us; sit at a desk for 50+ hours/week, then have 2-3 hours of INTENSE exercise where the body isn't stabilizing properly. . If you want to stay strong and healthy while enjoying these activities, you have to work on eccentric strength, that being the controlled "lowering" aspect of certain exercises. . www.catalyst-spt.com for more info, or if you need a session to feel good again. Today's trainer spotlight is on Anthony! . Anthony is a 337 year old alien from outer space. He chose a human form with beautiful, muscular legs as running is outlawed on his home planet. . Anthony is somewhat of a rebel here at Catalyst. He uses his sculpted alien glutes to zig and zag through the studio. Clients are amazed at his knowledge of human anatomy, but not surprised as his species are the ones who have been abducting/aggressively probing us for decades.... . If you can't find Anthony at the gym, chances are you'll find him playing cribbage, or watching reruns of "Perfect Strangers" with Larry and Balki. See more

In the past couple of weeks we've seen a few companies begin to reintroduce themselves since we were all closed for a while, so we thought we would follow suit. . This is our very own @k_les (Karen) . Before becoming a trainer, Karen spent a few years on the semiprofessional bee training circuit. She had 7 bees that she trained to perform many tricks. Kids birthday parties were a big hit. She also had a special performance on Halloween where her and the bees dressed up as gho...sts that she named, "Boo Bees". . After retiring from that career due to an unfortunate accident of filming during a feature film called "My Girl", Karen found her calling as a personal trainer. She sees a lot of similarities and crossover between training bees and training her clients; . "I've always attempted to see exercise through the lens of a bee. They pollinate the stamen of their muscles through repetition and habits. They sting when they sense a threat, and my programs have been known to sting my clients into getting swole." . You go, girl..? See more

Covid has affected us all greatly. Some have lost loved ones, businesses have closed and our entire approach to life has changed. Something that has been touched on over the last few months is that the rate of domestic violence against women and children has also increased dramatically. While places like The Interval House of Hamilton have worked to create a space for these individuals to feel safe and recover, they could benefit from additional funding and support. That's ...why this walk exists. Now, more than ever, we need to band together to show our support. On Oct. 9-10 Bryan will be walking 100km non stop from Burlington to the CN Tower and back in 24 hours to show support and to raise money for this amazing charity. Bryan has his own story behind why this matters so much to him. You can find the link to donate in our Linktree link in the bio, or here: https://www.canadahelps.org//100km-in-a-day-keeps-the-abu/

We are so excited to announce that our doors will officially be open to members as of Friday, July 24th! We’re looking forward to having you back and to welcome new members, but of course, there will be some rules to follow. Here’s what’s happening: - As stated by the City of Hamilton, masks are absolutely required indoors. However, the city also states that you are exempt if you a) have a medical condition preventing you from wearing a mask and b) if you’re participating i...n physical exercise. So please wear your mask while you move about the space before and after your workout. - We know it’s been a long time since you’ve seen us and your fellow members and you’re going to want to catch up, but please be respectful of your neighbours and wear your masks while maintaining your distance if you’re going to chat. - Sanitization stations are located throughout the gym and it is required that you sanitize any equipment that you’ve used during your workout. - Trainers and practitioners will be wearing masks at all times and will sanitize equipment used by clients during sessions. - In addition to these regular cleanings of equipment, our space is given a deep clean every other day to double up on safety. - If you’re an existing member and didn’t cancel your membership over the last few months, your key fob will be reactivated on Friday. - You are not required to book a time to come workout on your own. We ask you to please respect these rules for the sake of everyone’s health and safety. These rules are non-negotiable and we will be diligent in enforcing them. Rest assured that we will not be raising our membership or service fees when we reopen. There are no contracts or fine print - memberships are month-to-month and you can cancel at any time. Monthly Membership: $45+hst/month plus a one-time $20 fee for your access FOB. We can’t wait for you to see the changes that have happened here over the last few months, including expanding our available space and equipment, and adding some fantastic new team members to our Catalyst family. If you’ve never had the chance to visit us before, please stop by and we’d be happy to give you a tour. If you’re interested in signing up or booking a session with any of our trainers, contact [email protected] or 289-775-8337 No contracts. No hidden fees. No egos. Open 24/7/365. See you very soon, Hamilton!

While enjoying a skinny tall mocha-choca lattecino with extra diabetes with Al this morning on the patio, an interesting topic came up. . He started to ask us about muscle mass lost during Covid. He is already pretty lean but he was worried that he had atrophied more because of his lack of gym access for the last 4 months. . We took some time and assured him that it doesn't work that way. He was still exercising at home, so we explained that while the stress to his muscles ...would be enough to keep what he had been building before the pandemic, there would probably be some strength loss in his first few sessions back to the gym, as he hadn't had access to heavier weights or some of the machines available during his home sessions. . We've seen quite a few clients here at Catalyst in the last week or so, and each of them had felt this way; that all of their progress was halted and that they achieved blob status during the break. . Pleas understand that even if the first few sessions feel harder than they used to, that your body quickly remembers and you'll be back on track in no time at all. . www.catalyst-spt.com for more information @ Catalyst - Specialized Personal Training See more

1 on 1 personal training (inside) is now being allowed here in Hamilton! So that means 3 things; 1. You can see that our dumbbell racks are pretty sparse, so we are going to need all of the equipment back that was lent out. I know we sent out texts a couple of weeks ago but approximately 2 days later my phone died forever.. so if we didn't get back to you, we apologize and please send us a private message here for drop off times. We will be reaching out again through text for... anyone that hasn't returned them already. 2. We have almost 4500 square feet of open training space. Distancing rules are being followed and there is no piece of equipment that is less than 2m from its neighbour. The staff will be masked while training clients, but unless you feel very uncomfortable about the space, we suggest clients, especially when engaging in cardiovascular activity, refrain from wearing one while training, but again, it's up to you. We have the strongest environmentally safe sanitizer on the market, and have all trainers up to date on procedures around cleanliness of the space. 3. We will also be reaching out to all of our existing clients and we hope you're excited as we are to talk again. If your body is feeling a little rough after quarantine, please send us a text or give us a call at 289-775-8337 and we will get you in. We aren't a gym that caters specifically to weight loss, rather feeling good in your own skin, moving well and ridding yourself of aches and pains. www.catalyst-spt.com

We're not sure about you, but we could use a good outdoor challenge after spending so much time inside. If you're looking for some motivation/accountability/community to get yourself into a healthy routine, then look no further than Revive Physiotherapy 's Outdoor Club challenges! After months of closures and extra time spent inside, I'm sure we're all craving the great outdoors. These challenges are a fantastic way of spending some time outside while giving your body some T...LC. The catch here - and possibly what makes it more appealing to some - is that it requires some freedom and responsibility, or as Alan calls it, "self-propelled activity". This gives you the opportunity to choose your workout. Maybe you want to run the stairs 30 times, or maybe you just want to drive to the trail and walk a few minutes to a beautiful lookout point. It's up to you how you want to participate. Challenges are won based on your creativity. Share your photos, tell of your adventures, and get creative. All you have to do is download the Strava app and join the group. If you have any questions, head on over to Revive Physiotherapy and send Alan a message.

If you are going absolutely insane trying to find fun things to do with your kids, we're back with another scavenger hunt. We waited a little while before we created another because of the amount of messages we recieved claiming we were encouraging non distancing.. so now that things are clearing up a bit, here's another hunt. This one starts at Victoria Park and the goal is to help Farmer Jasper find his 9 chickens. For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about - t...his summer we are doing a series of scavenger hunts that you can do with your kids, or adult friends that act like kids. Through the link below, you pick a time that you will start the hunt. Start times are 30 minutes apart so do not show up early for your slot. All hints are laminated QR codes so you will need a QR code reader. No touching involved. The QR code will take you to the next riddle/video which will give you the next hint for the next chicken. Since our gym won't be opening for the foreseeable future, I'm essentially a large man child with ADHD and I think you and your kiddos will have fun with this. Lastly, if you are thinking of sending a nasty message about how we are trying to break rules, save your breath. This took well over 40 hours to make and I won't respond to negativity at this time as it seems as though that's what I'm seeing all around me. Enjoy! Let me know if you like it and I'll make another one. Also feel free to post different locations in which you'd like to see these put up! :) Follow us on Instagram for details on the next one - search "Physical Distancing Scavenger Hunts" Sign up for your time, below! No plates will be included but if you'd like to come pick it up, feel free. . But, let's have some fun. I want your best poem as to why you deserve this veteran sled. . Let's form it in the style of "Roses are Red." . Example; "Violets are blue, Roses are red, I'd be super pumped, If you just stopped making dumb contests and gave me the damn sled." . Well, it's almost finished. 550 extra square feet of open gym space. . Once they allow us to open, that's approximately 3500 square feet of open space not riddled with equipment like most 24 hour gyms. . We've got our hopes up. We keep our member base very small as our strength is movement rehab/personal training, so even with a few trainers in here with their clients, as well as a couple of members working out, we are going to have MORE THAN enough space to keep up the phy...sical distancing. . Stay tuned. We've been working on MUCH more than this for those that have stuck with us and for anyone new looking for a space to move well and feel healthy. . Thank you so much for your support. All of you. You're amazing. See more

We know we mentioned a couple of weeks ago (who are we kidding, could have been months.. what is time, even..) that @dundurnwellness has decided to make 318 Dundurn St South their home as soon as the restrictions are lifted - but they've also started a blog! https://www.wellness-collective.ca/blog-1 . This is the first of many fantastic pieces they are planning on putting out. ... . Give them a follow if you haven't already. See more

Attn: Approximately size 10.5 Pointy Boot Man. . I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for DBs I can tell you I don’t have many, but what I do have are a very particular set of mopping skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long black floor owning career. Mopping skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you tell me who you are and who raised a monster like you, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you. . We do not take these matters lightly. @ Catalyst - Specialized Personal Training

Listen up! . Our amazing neighbours @alandrichter and Julian Quaglia of @revive_physiotherapy are hosting a FREE webinar this Wednesday evening at 5:30pm to teach everyone how to properly exercise during the Covids. . These two beautiful physiotherapists will be gently seducing your brains while teaching you how to strengthen that magnificent body of yours. ... . Limited availability. Only 3 spots left. Nope, 2.. 2 spots now. One filled as we typed that sentence. You'd better hurry. It's probably full. We think it's full. Try anyway, but you'll be super lucky if you can get in. (Picked up that little marketing gem a couple of years ago - not bad, eh?) www.hamontphysio.ca/blog.

In this episode of What's Your Catalyst, Eni Kadar returns from her physio journey through the states. This episode was recorded several weeks ago before the world shut down, and to lighten your day, we thought we'd give you some clever banter and opinions on mental health in many different facets. And perhaps laugh along with their rediculousness. Enjoy!

This place. . Throughout this entire quarantine (also, this is Bryan, big surprise...) I have been going to @dundurnmarket every day to keep my sanity. As much as physical distancing is important during these times, so is mental health - and what I've realized over the last 60 days is that I'm a pretty social creature. Even getting a coffee and muffin here in the morning changes the tone of my entire day. . They allow only one person in the market at a time, and honestly eve...n if the place were to be full of people, you'd still feel like you're the only one there. . To @justinabbiss , @helenbelenwatermelon_ , @janna.dekker , Emmy, and whoever else I haven't tagged because I'm rather slow, thank you for making each day much easier to get through. Our chats and interactions are crucial during these times, and I know I'm not the only one that feels that way. . If you still head over the the market for anything at all, give them a shout out. If you don't, you need to start. Dundurn Market is definitely the hub of Kirkendall. See more

We're going through Ch-ch-ch-changes! . We have been wanting to switch things up around here for a while now, so when our doors open back up, be prepared for a brand new look in here, with enough space between all equipment/machines to have all of the distancing you want. . We will see you all very, very shortly .

As one door closes, another opens. During times of chaos for some, it's the perfect chance for opportunity for others. . Ok, we are done trying to be deep. Most of our amazing clients know that @revive_physiotherapy is moving on to bigger and better things. They will no longer housed in Unit 9 at 318 Dundurn. Instead, they will be moving up to the front of the building sometime during this month in order to have more space, but still have a connection to Catalyst. .... Well, in the time that @alandrichter was making this decision and deciding on the transition, we recieved an amazing email from our friends over at @wellnessrefined . They had made the decision to restructure their company and @lindsayjkling needed a new space. . So it is with a very warm heart that we welcome @dundurnwellness to 318 Dundurn St S. Lindsay has an incredible team that she will be working with, and we are very excited to have her in the building and to be part of everything we've got going on at Catalyst. . Go give her page a follow and please stay tuned for opening dates. See more

Well, here it is. This is a small taste, but please know that the reason this is taking so long to complete it is because we want to make sure that we put everything we've got into this catalogue. . We promise, it will be worth the wait.
