2017 Carty Award Recipient- Cardinal Leger CSS- Dufferin-Peel CDSB - 100th Anniversary of Fatima Our Lady of Fatima Centenary Procession & Lunch On October 13, Dufferin-Peel’s Brampton West Family of Schools came together as a community to mark the Centennial of the last apparition of Our Lady at Fatima. Over 500 students and staff, from Cardinal Leger S.S. and five of its feeder schools: St. Mary's; Bishop Francis Allen; St. Anne's; Father C.W. Sullivan; and St. Kevin, gath...ered at Sir Ken Whillans Square, in front of the Brampton City Hall, along with parishioners from St. Mary's Church, to begin a procession through downtown Brampton to St. Mary's Church. Students, staff, parishioners and community leaders then celebrated Holy Mass at St. Mary's followed by a dramatic tableau of "The Miracle of the Sun" at Fatima dramatized by Cardinal Leger's Chaplaincy Team. Students and invited guests all received rosaries and prayer cards, created by Léger's Digital Arts students, and were invited to pray the rosary during the procession to St. Mary's Church. Student Council Prime Minister, Alfonso Menanno, welcomed the community. The Rev. Fr. Liborio read letters in support of the Fatima Centenary from the Most Reverend John A. Boissonneau and His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins. The parish and school community then gathered at St. Anne's for a BBQ lunch prepared by Cardinal Léger's Hospitality team. Included in the menu of BBQ hamburgers and hotdogs was a nod to the heritage of Portugal in the form of sweet "masa" bread served for dessert. A special note of thanks to the Rev. Fr. Liborio Amaral, Pastor of St. Mary's Church, for inspiring the Our Lady of Fatima Centenary and to Cardinal Léger's school Chaplain, Mr. Brian Finamore, for helping to turn Fr. Liborio's vision of a Marian celebration into a reality!
