The only surviving excerpt from Jacqueline du Pre’s impassioned September 1965 performance of Bruch’s Kol Nidrei with The Hallé Orchestra and Sir John Barbirol...li - which took place only 3 weeks after du Pre and Barbirolli’s EMI Elgar Concerto recording. The audio recording of this performance has been unearthed and released by the Sir John Barbirolli Society (see previous post)! : From ‘Jacqueline du Pré and the Elgar Concerto’, courtesy of Christopher Nupen/Allegro Films. [BIRTHDAY] Astor Piazzolla would have been 99 years old today! He opened a new chapter for tango, and we're here to celebrate with the Buniatishvili sisters Khatia and Gvantsa! http://bit.ly/Buniatishvili_Woodland

Our March 22 concert features oboist Anna Betuzzi. Have you ever wondered why the orchestra tunes to the oboe's A before a concert? Which of the following ...do you think provide the answer? a) the oboe has stable pitch; b) the oboe has unstable pitch; c) it has a clear tone, easy to hear; d) circumstances of history; e) all oboe players have perfect pitch. Beethoven, Butterfield and...... Burdeti! Jannie Burdeti made a great impression on our patrons at her duo concert with husband Andrei (guitar) in November la...st year. Her fluid, articulate playing and flawless execution of the music brought the composers' intention to life for her audience. We also enjoyed her accessibility and warm stage persona. We are honoured and so pleased to welcome Jannie back to another concert in our series. Get your tickets soon! Beethoven Butterfield Burdeti Cellist Rosanna Butterfield is praised for her exquisite playing, but more importantly, she is a musician who is actively in...volved in changing the world. She has played under the baton of renowned conductors such as James Levine and Charles Dutoit, but has also founded an elementary school music program, and traveled to Jordan to bring music to a refugee camp. We are incredibly fortunate to welcome her to our concert series. Please do not miss this opportunity to hear world class music performed in our community!
