PART 2 Keep connected socially It is imperative that when we are keeping our social distance and isolating within our homes, to remain social. Video chats, text messages, social media and even telephone calls (if anybody still uses them!) to family, friends, or neighbours can be really helpful! This may be the best time to figure out what the rest of your friends/family are upto! Relaxation strategies Implementing strategies such as deep breathing, mindfulness, meditatio...n, prayer, or visualization can help reduce symptoms of anxiety. These are strategies that are beneficial when implemented in our daily lives. Even 5 minutes of these strategies can be helpful! Balance information intake- While it is important to be informed about the on goings of the world especially with the current pandemic, it is important to keep a balanced approach. Constantly checking our devices for the news, can exacerbate our worries and stress levels. Keeping a balance or even setting up specific times/ time limit to how much information we consume can be helpful to combat the excessive worry and fear. Also, its imperative to use trusted sources such as Public Health or Government websites to avoid receiving misleading information. Get professional help If at any point you feel overwhelmed with everything going, it may be beneficial to get professional help. Remember it is okay. It is an uncertain time for many of us as we are facing new challenges in the face of this current pandemic. Some options that may provide professional services include: Crisis Service Canada Call: 1833-456-4566/ 416-915-4566; Text: 45645 (Open 24/7) Kids Helpphone Call: 1800-668-6868; Text: 686868 (Open 24/7) First Nations/ Inuit Help- Call: 1855-242-3310 (24/7) Connex Ontario: 1866-531-2600 Websites: dcontario.org; Cmha.ca If it is a medical emergency call 911 and contact your local health professional. Stay safe everyone!

Mental Health/Wellbeing During Social Isolation We are living in a unique and uncertain time amid the Coronavirus pandemic that has been affecting everyone around us. Many of us have been self-isolating and keeping our social distance from those around us in hopes to reduce the spread of the virus and reduce the demand on the healthcare system. However, with social distancing there can be challenges to our mental wellbeing by being isolated from others and of society at larg...e. It is important to continue to take care of our mental wellbeing (as well as physical!), to the best of our ability. So what can we do to take care of our mental being during these difficult times? Here are some suggestions: Physical activity Its important to try as much as we can to still be active within our homes. Whether its an exercise routine, jumping jacks, yoga or even just walking around the house, all of these can be helpful to improve moods and decrease our stress/anxiety. Additionally, it is important to continue to be regular with meals (try eating healthy!) and our sleep. Engage in enjoyable activities Staying at home may have given us an extra amount of time to engage in activities we normally do not have time for. Try to engage in activities such as playing board games, video games, reading a book, drawing/sketching, listening to podcasts or even trying a new recipe. Engagement in enjoyable activities can help manage our worries and keep our minds occupied. Learn something new- Ever have thoughts of trying to learn a new hobby/skill, well now is the time! Watch Youtube Videos, learn a skill from a friend/family member (nows the time to learn grandmas secret recipe!) If your curiosity is more academic try free courses on platforms such as: khanacademy.com, futurelearn.com or openlearning.mit.edu. Keep connected socially It is imperative that when we are keeping our social distance and isolating within our homes, to remain social. Video chats, text messages, social media and even telephone calls (if anybody still uses them!) to family, friends, or neighbours can be really helpful!

Repost: Below are tips from the podcast Kwik Brain with Jim Kwik, Episode 162 2 months into the New Year, have you achieved your New Years Resolution of journaling daily, cleaning your house more often, working out, eating better? If so, great job and of the majority of us who keep falling back into the same old habits, here are some tips from Jim Kwik.... Your Mindset is everything but do not let it control you. The beliefs that we have are L.I.Es; L-imited I-deas E-ntertaining Our beliefs and self-talk is an amazing tool that can help us, but we first need to master our self-talk to help us rather than hold us back. What we believe, what we think we are capable of and what we believe is possible can either limit us or make us limitless. For example, we think from a young age that our intelligence is fixed but it has been proven that you can change your intelligence by how much you work at it. It is the same in every aspect of your life, but it all starts with Mindset. So if you are still struggling with your New Years Resolution, try by changing your Mindset and your beliefs of achieving it. You do not need to take a huge step towards your goals, rather start small and celebrate the small victories towards your resolution. #physiomilton #milton #mindset #kinesiology #rehab #cbttherapy

Do you work a 9-5? Are you always sitting? Do you have hip flexor pain when sitting, walking or exercising? Hip flexor muscle helps balance the posterior pelvic muscles. Through the years of constantly sitting, they become shortened and can be painful with lower body exercises (ex. Squats) or something as simple as walking. Instead of always stretching it, maybe it is time for you to strengthen your hip flexor muscle. Above is a very simple exercise you can either do with a ...band or without a band. It is called Marching. With a Band: Place the band over the big part of your feet and slowly begin marching. Make sure that you are not off balance and you are completing the March slowly and controlled. Without Band: Once standing, begin marching, however on the descending portion, control how quickly you drop your leg. You can still utilize stretching to help reduce the pain short-term. Starting to strengthen your muscles would be a long-term fix. If you have any specific question, our Physiotherapists and Kinesiologist can assess to create a specific plan for you! #physiotherapy #kinesiology #registeredmassagetherapist #CBIMilton #concussionrehab #rehabilitation #MiltonPhysio @ Milton, Ontario

This week on Self-Care Fridays, I want to remind of you a tool that we neglect to use, Epsom Salts! After finishing a long work week, taking an Epsom Salt bath is the best way to kickstart your weekend w...hich can help prevent the aches and pains from getting in the way of your weekend. Recommended use: 20 minute bath with 1-2 scoops of Epsom Salt and warm water once a week I know that for some of us with busy schedules this may not be realistic, so you can just soak your feet in a bucket filled with water and Epsom Salt.
