Since early summer, I've been helping out the Youth BIOlab at my workplace (St. Boniface Hospital Research). Before the pandemic, this section of the centre bro...ught in students, grades 5-12, from all over the city and province to learn about biomedical science. Students even got to check out some of the labs here and meet some scientists! Now field trips are cancelled, and new ways to work with the school divisions had to be made from the ground up. I'm happy to share http://youthbiolab.ca is live for the public to view. Nine video lessons about the heart, brain, lungs, germs, cells, nutrients, microscopes, diabetes/blood sugar, and masks are viewable. These videos will also be available in French in the coming weeks. The video series, titled Healthy Curiosity, is available on YouTube as well at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIUQW9t3A21k7mhleV2zoTQ. It's been a lot of fun working with the staff of the Youth BIOlab! I have learned quite a bit about science from recording and editing these videos!
Bradley Feltham, PhD Student in Dr. Miyoung Suh's Nutrition and Neurological Diseases Laboratory (CCARM/DND) has recently been awarded a University of Manitoba Doctoral Award for Indigenous Students and Prairie Indigenous Knowledge Exchange Network (PIKE-NET) PhD Graduate Fellowship to support his graduate studies. Please share! It only takes one person to infect many. DON’T be that one. We all MUST socially (physically) distance NOW. Learn how at www.covid19manitoba.ca. Stay SAFE, Stay STRONG Manitoba.
DONATE TODAY! In the six months before the COVID-19 pandemic reached our province, the RBC Youth BIOlab Jeunesse welcomed more than 3,000 Manitoba students from... grades 4 to 12 to St. Boniface Hospital’s Albrechtsen Research Centre. Although we’ve paused school visits to the Youth BIOlab due to the pandemic, its programming carries on! This #GivingTuesdayCA you can give more of Manitoba's kids - especially those in rural, Northern, and remote locations - the chance to experience Youth BIOlab programming from their homes or classrooms. By joining thousands of others choosing to do good today, you will help the Youth BIOlab deliver hands on remote learning opportunities to young people through its original series of educational videos called Healthy Curiosity. Will you join the movement and help us raise $10,000 today to fund 10 remote-learning kits and production of more Healthy Curiosity videos? By donating now, you will be helping kids across the province to deepen their understanding of health, the nature of science, scientific inquiry, and design.
