Matthew Armaly is a third year Civil Engineering student here at the University of Windsor, fresh off a hands-on co-op placement at RC Spencer Associates. RC Spencer Associates Inc. is a Canadian owned, Windsor based, consulting engineering firm. The firm has a staff of 30 people. Matthew applied to the co-op program to gain real world experience working in a professional engineering environment, and to establish connections that he could use to gain an advantage in his care...er. So far, his experience has given him just that. From a technical side, he improved his skills using drafting software such as AutoCAD Civil3D and other data processing tools such as Microsoft Excel. He was also given the opportunity to learn how to use surveying equipment in order to gather precise geographic information. Matthew enjoyed working under the supervision of an experienced licensed professional engineer throughout the duration of a high profile municipal drainage project in the Kingsville area. As Matthew returns to full-time classes, he credits his time in co-op for forming connections, allowing for an easier transition between semesters, and helping financially support a large portion of his education.
