We are proud to share the announcement by the Government of Canada of its $500,000 contribution to assist with relief efforts in Croatia. We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and terrible destruction brought by the powerful earthquake. (https://www.canada.ca//canadas-response-to-earthquake-in-c) Thank you to the Government of Canada for its contribution and in particular to MP Bob Bratina for his continuous support of and efforts on behalf of the Croatian community in Canada and abroad. Thank you as well to Ambassador Alan Bowman, Ambassador Vice Skrai, Consul General Ante Jovi and Honorary Consul Majot Hallen for their continued diplomatic efforts on the ground to strengthen relations between Canada and Croatia. Britannia Mine Disaster of 1915: it was all over in seconds (From the Croatica research collections of Professor Emeritus Dr. Želimir Jurii (University of Victoria)) Years ago, while driving from Vancouver to Whistler, I stopped briefly at the picturesque little community of Britannia beach, some fifty miles north of Vancouver on the Sea- to- sky highway. Despite its small population (about 300), the locals proudly bragged about their sport club, amateur theatre, hobby clu...bs, swimming pool, and especially their museum. The British Columbia Museum of Mining as it is now known preserves wealth of information and artifacts related to British Columbia’s mining industry. A special place is devoted to the 1915 Britannia Mine disaster, the second deadliest rock slide in Canadian history. It left fifty-six people dead, and twenty-two injured.
