Congrats to McKeil Marine for the acquisition of their new vessel! Looks like a great addition to the fleet! We hope everyone has a safe and happy Labor Day Weekend!
A sneak peek at the construction of our new dive command center! Typically, youll find a cube van or an enclosed trailer that starts completely empty that are chosen for dive trailers. We wanted something more. Custom aluminum ramp extension and umbilical racks made by East Coast Metal Fabrication and they came out great. ... Spray in bed liner done by Rim Pros on Keltic Drive. Stay with us. You wont believe the finished product!
Client rep: "whos leaving their laundry all over the site?" Dive supervisor: "nothing to worry about, just the dive team drying out their gear" Not an uncommon occurrence for working divers!
Whats up, fellow divers? Kensen Jardine here, owner/operator of CDMS. First off, thank you for following my page. I enjoy bringing you diving and marine content that we experience here in Cape Breton..sunshine or snowstorms! The reason Im posting today, is because I feel the need to address physical fitness for divers. I have an idea to help divers, current and future, get into diving shape. Ill get to that in a few.... First, I have been a diver since i was 12 (now 32). I have also been a fitness enthusiast since I was 14. Ive done everything from bodybuilding and powerlifting type to crossfit and endurance type training. Most divers out there are that I know are younger and, by default, in decent enough shape to dive and do very well. But what happens when you hit 30? 35? 40? Does the gear feel just that slight bit heavier getting up and down that ladder? Are you losing your wind just a bit faster than when you started? I watched my father dive well into his 50s, and were talking surface supply with a KM37SS, 2 hours in the water cleaning mussels out of stabilizer wings with a caviblaster. Im sure you all know that hardcore diver as well. But can this be improved with a regimented training program? It certainly can, which brings me to my post today. Ive recently competed ISSA (International Sports Science Association) personal training course, and am working on my nutrition course now. Im considering developing diver-specific training programs that will allow divers to be at their absolute best, in and out of the water. Training programs can be customized to meet your goals. Diving starts with safety. Physical Fitness in-water will increase that safety level. Would anyone be interested in this? Feel free to comment below with any questions!
Here are some resources for all divers regarding Covid-19: https://cadc.ca/blog/2020/03/covid-19-diving/ Canadian Association of Dive Contractors has done a great job in compiling this information. It includes links from Kirby Morgan, ADCI, DAN, and more. This is a great resource for divers during this pandemic. ... Stay safe.
CDMS crew was out on training this week, sharpening up our emergency oil spill response skills. This week the emphasis was placed on night operations. Being able to navigate a small vessel at night in a busy harbour requires specific techniques, especially during the colder months of the year. Its all part of our 24/7 emergency response capabilities that we offer to our clients!
Like this photo if you have ever opened this masterpiece at one time or another! #professionaldivershandbook #timetolearn
We are proud to be involved with the Intersect Challenge to further push the diving industry forward! https://www.journalpioneer.com//intersect-challenge-to-ta/

Another training course in the books! (Pun intended) I recently completed the dive supervisor course, which was a great refresher for dive physics and an excellent resource for further understanding the dive regulation standards. Next up, to get my DCBC supervisor card! Moving up! I highly recommend this course to anyone looking for further their career in diving. You should always be learning!!!!... #CDMS #commercialdiving

Id this guy isnt a diver, he should be.
We have been hard at it lately! Removed some debris from a dock so ships can enter safely, placed some buoys as depth indicators for large vessels, and so much else! CDMS Atlantic - your FULL service marine contractors!
Looks like we have a future diver on our hands!
Going diving tomorrow!!!! Anyone else???Going diving tomorrow!!!! Anyone else???
Another round of oil spill response training for our staff at CDMS, ensuring that emergency response operates at 100% to protect our waterways! Oh, and we always really enjoy the training, too!
A little bit of history on the marine industry in Cape Breton. In its day, this would have been a very essential service.
Any other divers out there that love to train?
Now this....is cool! We could use one in Sydney Harbour right about now!
Ensuring our oil spill response preparedness for the region remains at the ready. Not to mention, not a bad morning!
Would anyone care to venture a guess as to how thick the ice is? A colleague drilled out a hole in the ice yesterday..I was slightly surprised!
Know your limits! Exposure can be no joke. It may be warmer underwater, but you need to get there first! https://infogram.com/windchill-1hxr4zl9zx1e6yo
Our whole-hearted condolences.
Myself and my dear father(and former owner) KenJardine, doing some vessel movements on Christmas Eve. He works more now than before he retired!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #CDMS #needadiveteam #nocashnosplash
Happy New Year from all of us at CDMS Atlantic! We wish you all prosperity and happiness in the new year with lots of bottom time!
Heres a good lesson in What Not To Do in Diving 101
High winds warning. Rainfall warning. Storm surge warning.... Theres still work to be done! The inaudible commentary is a testament to the strength of the wind today. 110km gusts!!
Heads up, we have some weather coming out way. Although theres no wind chill underwater, getting underwater in these conditions may prove difficult. Stay safe, fellow divers and mariners.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to tour the RCGS Resolute, owned by One Ocean Expeditions while docked at the Port of Sydney. I could see passengers departing the vessel with such energy and enthusiasm from what they had witnessed. The passengers knew the crew as if they were old friends. No expense was spared on this ship. Travelling on an Antarctic expedition in absolute luxury. I was very interested to hear that One Ocean have an open bridge policy, where you can visit the bridge at any time during the voyage. For mariners, thats huge! And yes, it was an early morning tour. The ship was due to depart shortly after and I could not pass up the opportunity to see it before they left. I look forward to seeing One Ocean in Sydney Harbour much more in the future. The Marine industry here in Cape Breton is looking up!
Meet Rylee! Rylee is a grade 11 student at Memorial High School. She will be joining us on some dive sites over the next few months. CDMS Atlantic is working with Memorial High School through the Nova Scotia Government Co-operative Education program, which allows students to get out into the field in certain career choices they may be interested in. We are looking forward to having Rylee on board!
We have some VERY exciting news!! We have recently acquired a new dive support vessel! This is a 43 foot fibreglass boat made by Provincial Boat Builders. This will be the new flagship of the CDMS fleet and will be available for all of your Marine service needs! We will be able to perform all manners of diving from this boat, including hull cleaning, inspections, wet welding and burning operations, and more! Passenger transfers, scientific data collection, including habitat surveys and Marine sediment sampling...the possibilities with this boat are endless. We are thrilled to be adding to our growing fleet and look forward to keeping you updated with the progress made on this boat. Stay tuned for updates! But what will we name it! Hmmm....
Weather around Cape Breton can turn extremely quickly. It was 27 degrees and sunny only a few hours before we went diving! Nevertheless, This is our playground, and we love it! Our dive team was out on a job for scientific data collection today!
