More than $2.9 million dollars will be invested by beef producers into new research and technology transfer projects in 2021 through the Canadian Beef Cattle Check-Off. Proposals for twenty-nine more projects have been approved for funding by the Beef Cattle Research Council to advance Canada’s beef sector.

This column usually tells you about a research project that the Beef Cattle Research Council has supported using Canadian Beef Cattle Check-Off funds paid by producers like yourself. Sometimes you may ask yourself why on earth did they fund that?, why don’t they do research on this? or do they ask producers what they need? Well, read on. Canada Beef is working to get QR codes on packages of beef in grocery stores. Canada Beef President Michael Young was part of a panel discussion last week during the online Saskatchewan Beef Industry Conference, noting a wide variety of information, including videos and recipes, would be available for the consumer.

In 2017, the Canadian Beef Cattle Check-off was increased from $1 to $2.50 per head marketed in most provinces, with approximately 75 cents allocated to the BCRC. This has allowed the BCRC to do a lot more things. Check them out in this story below:
