Tonight at 7 pm, W5 investigates the lack of rape kits and nurses trained to perform a sexual assault examination at hospitals across Canada. Amanda Lathlin of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly is on a mission to change that, especially for remote communities where victims may be required to fly out to another hospital during the crucial time period when evidence needs to be collected. 41% of Canadian hospitals do not have rape kits on site.

Our hearts, our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of Ontario Provincial Police Constable Marc Hovingh, a 28 year veteran of the force who was shot and killed in the line of duty today on Manitoulin Island in Georgian Bay. It's a heart breaking reminder of the danger police officers face every day serving and protecting. Thank you for your service.

Domestic abuse by the #'s - a woman is murdered by an intimate partner every 6 days in Canada, a woman will leave up to 12 times before leaving permanently, in 2014 domestic violence calls in Peel doubled, in 2019 intimate partner murders spiked 100%. Learn about the work being done by Peel Regional's dedicated Intimate Partner Violence Unit.

Mark and Gert have a passion for Christmas that knows no bounds. They put a huge amount of work into turning their yard into a Winter Wonderland every year and they have additionally incorporated accepting gift card and cash donations on behalf of CDVS to distribute to victims in our community who need some help getting through the season. November is Woman Abuse Prevention Month and CTV's W5 will be airing an investigative report called "Unrestrained" on Saturday Nov 14th at 7 pm. Reporter Avery Haines takes a close look at the murder of 25 year old Darian Hailey Henderson-Bellman at the hands of her ex boyfriend in Brampton who repeatedly violated a restraining order. The system failed Darian and the report looks at what needs to change to protect victims of abusive relationships. We need to do better.
