Cedar Creek Caskets 14.11.2020

Selecting a casket for your loved one is one of the hardest things we will ever endure. Walking through this ‘darkness and sorrow’ is one of those things why th...e old people told us ‘make our minds strong’ and ‘to support each other’. We would like to be able to ‘help’ you and in a small yet consistent way know we would like to reinforce the teachings of the old people. How are we going to do this? First, to help the family remember that our prayers, songs and teachings are as old as time itself we have used blankets to line our caskets. You also have the option of selecting silk as well. Secondly, we remembered Cedar/Xpey was used to make rattles, canoes, build our longhousesuse of Cedar drew our teachings closer and our ceremonial rites. Our caskets are made from Red Cedar accessed from the west coast of Vancouver Island through the Nitinaht Nation. Third, natural fibre manila has been used for handles and lid straps. Natural plant-based Linseed oil is used as a finishing. If you prefer folding metal handles are an option. Finally, as a reflection of our canoeing culture, handles fashioned after canoe paddles are available. Finally, we are very sorry for your loss and if we are able to help further please get in touch with us. Casket photos available upon request, Tom @ 250-816-0464 or [email protected]

We have made some changes and improvements to our caskets. They are now lined in Native design blankets available in various colours and we’ve added natural fibre manila handles and lid straps. In conjunction with our use of all reclaimed red cedar for our wood, these changes combine to enhance the environmentally sound nature or environmental footprint of our caskets. We are now a very green choice as less metal is used, and our caskets return to the earth naturally and... cleanly. The reclaimed red cedar is a product of Nitnat First Nation and its members. We have also made improvements to the structural stability and strength of our caskets via a thicker walled stronger base and improved assembly processes. Paddle handle caskets with satin lining will continue to be available as an optional choice.
