Hopefully we will get some answers today on when we can start having members back at the club. Once we have the proper information from the government, we will communicate to everyone via newsletter, website and social media on the plan. As beautiful as the upgrade to the pool looks, it’s not the same without the members.

Our second example of giving back was to 2 separate retirement facilities, Maple Villa and Wellington Care Centre. We asked members to pick an ornament and purchase the gift that was recommended on that ornament. Once again, this was (and always is) a successful venture. We are thankful to everyone who donated. This was truly a humbling experience. These facilities have people who are truly in need. We were able to brighten the day of many retirees even if it was from the parking lot transferring gifts. Thank you for putting together another wonderful cause.

We are blown away by the spirit of the squash/pickleball members at our club. For Thanksgiving they put together a turkey drive at the last minute were able to make a success out of it. This time around Darlene Kretz approached us with a great idea for the Burlington Food Bank. Within a day or two we had the Food Bank deliver a box to the club and not long after that, the generosity of our members filled it. The gentlemen from the Food Bank were blown away at what we were able to accomplish. Thank you everyone for making this a successful venture. Most of all, thank you Darlene Kretz for stepping up with this great idea.

CALLING ALL MEMBERS. Cedar Springs has always been a generous bunch and we know we can count on their generosity to help out. There are so many in all the communities who are struggling to put food on the table. Our project this Christmas is to facilitate a FOOD DRIVE for the BURLINGTON FOOD BANK. Every little bit helps and is truly appreciated. We will have a bin in the main foyer of the club. The last time we did something like this was for Thanksgiving and we blew the s...ocks off our friends at the Burlington Food Bank. Next time you come in, drop off some of the items on the below list and give back to those in our community who are struggling to make ends meet. Here is the list of the ten most needed items: Canned Meat (Ham, Turkey, Chicken) Rice (1Kg or 2Kg sizes) Peanut Butter Cookies Canned Tomatoes Shampoo, Deodorant, Toothpaste and Toothbrushes Hot Cereal (Oatmeal/Porridge Single Servings) Canned Fruit Large Soup (Ready To Eat) Condiments (Ketchup, Mustard, Sauces) Remember, diapers are always in need as well.

Meet Sarah Jackson, our Child Care Supervisor for our Child Care center that is about to be completed. Sarah is a Registered Early Childhood Educator and has enjoyed the last 15 years supporting children as they explore, learn and grow. She believes in the 'joy of teaching' and that by following the interest of our children they can be successful and enjoy learning. She has worked with children off all ages and in many different environments. Teaching is an evolving process ...and it is important to recognize the strengths of each child, their value, their individual personality and their family beliefs. Below are a few words from Sarah; "I believe in the power of relationships and that building a trusting, fun and accepting relationship with the children of our world will best enable to share and be a part of their learning experience. I have two young children of my own who remind me daily how wonderful the world can be when we look at it through their eyes, to share in the excitement of all that is new and that the possibilities can be endless. It is my hope that all children can feel loved and supported as they discover their own world and create their own adventures."

Cedar Springs Health Racquet & Sportclub in Burlington 01.11.2020

We all know the challenges, changes and tough times 2020 has given us, some more than others. We can choose to focus on these tough times or we can pat ourselves on the back for our endurance, our ability to change and adapt, as well as our choice to look on the bright side, smile, and enjoy the times with our family and friends. With our 16th annual Bikes for Kids program, we are buoyed by the prospect of 125 children waking up on Christmas morning with something new and une...xpected under their tree. It is a huge task to find 125 new bikes, set up a safe way to distribute them to the kids and raise the money to fulfill our dream for them. This will be a tough year, and we are asking our donors from last year to please consider helping out again. Maybe not as much as last, maybe more, if you are one of the lucky few who did better this year. We are also pushing to broaden our reach and ask if you would consider sending our info to 3-5 of your friends. Every bit helps; dollar by dollar, kindness by kindness we will get there. The 2020 Bikes for Kids flyer is attached, or you can visit my website www.paceperformance.ca for more details. What drives me each year is waking up on Christmas morning, laying in bed and listening to the quiet, knowing that down the block, around the corner, there are screaming, jumping, sweaty kids over the moon with their new, unexpected, but very much deserved new bike, helmet and lock. I lay there and think of how lucky I am to know so many people that are willing and able to contribute to these kids and share a sense of building our community through these kids. I love that we share this feeling, thanks to these acts of kindness for the children we do not know and will never know. On the other hand...every time you see a kid zoom by you or that gang of kids on their way to the park or practice or work on their bike, you could be responsible for making that happen. One bike is more than two wheels, and in this case a gift is way more than just a gift. Enjoy your holiday, enjoy your family and friends, stay active, stay sane, and love where we are. We will move ahead of this and reflect on it with satisfaction and pride. We made it through the storm and brought our friends, family and even a few strangers through it with us. Any help you can give to Bikes for Kids is so gracious and appreciated. Merry Christmas! Greg

While this is short notice, we came up with an idea that has taken off. Our members Paul Susi and Mike Donnelly invited people to bring in frozen turkeys for locals in Burlington who need help. We now have 27 turkeys and counting. If you have the means, drop off a frozen turkey for the Burlington Food Bank. Every turkey counts! Tell the front desk and after a symptoms test, we will take your turkey and add it to our freezer.

It's Official.....we have hired Squash Pro Reiko Peter! Welcome Reiko (pronounced Rye-ko). Here is his bio I was born in Switzerland and started playing Squash when I was 13. I immediately fell in love with it and started to work hard on my game. At the end of my junior career I was a member of the Swiss National Squad and played in many European and World Championships through the years. I am an 8 time runner up of the Swiss National Championship. In 2006 I made the step ...to full time Squash pro and fought my way up to a highest world ranking of 66. Along the way I won 6 PSA titles. Unfortunately I had to have two hip surgeries in 2017 but I still managed to win another title after my comeback. After meeting my wife in Switzerland about 6 years ago I decided to move to Toronto to start working as a full time coach in the summer of 2019. Since then I have been coaching at the Granite Club in Toronto. He said "I look forward to meeting all of you." We believe he meant "beating all of you" but we could be wrong. #squash #burlingtonsquash #squashpro #burlington #CedarSprings

This September will be a school year like no other. Many parents are "sitting on the fence" on their decision to send children back to school or not. Cedar Springs is finalizing a plan to allow for children to do their online learning in the morning and athletic activities in the afternoon here at the club. This will be a great option for parents who do not wish to send their children to school but still need someone to watch after them while they work. If this is of interest to you, please fill out this survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WRTP5CH and then send an email to [email protected] telling us to add you to our list. We will not ask for any money at this time.

A message from ACE Tennis! Tennis camp only

Cedar Springs Health Racquet & Sportclub in Burlington 21.08.2019

A Letter to Our Parents for Summer Camps What can you do at home to get ready for camp? We ask for your cooperation in preparing your children for camps this summer. It is recommended that you begin to introduce the idea of COVID-19 and COVID-19 measures to your children if you haven’t already. Our goal at Cedar Springs is to provide a comfortable and positive atmosphere for everyone while continuing to ensure camps are as safe as possible and we strive to pursue that while i...mplementing all the necessary safety measures. For some children it may be awkward to see our camp staff or other children in masks/visors. We also understand that many children have not seen many people outside of their immediate family (household) and have yet had to experience social distancing. It is important to us that all children feel safe and comfortable while here at camp. That being said, we ask for your assistance in preparing them. Help by educating your children on social distancing, seeing people with PPE (masks, face shields, and gloves), and continuing the conversation around hand washing. This can be done through conversations, having children experience wearing a mask or seeing others in masks, and by practicing their hand washing skills. Here are some links and resources available for you as you help your children prepare for camps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXUT62G-IcU https://www.canada.ca//v/covid-19-hand-washing-heroes.html We hope you are as excited as we are for the start of summer and the start of camps! If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to [email protected] or call the club at (905) 632-4800. Stay tuned for next week's communication on further measures we are taking here at the club!

This father and son duo were the first to come back to the Cedar Springs. Every day as a team they worked harder and harder for a goal that seemed so far away in the distance when they started. That didn’t phase them. We were so taken back but the dedication and work ethic that we got them a little gift as a token of our appreciation for the inspiration they have provided our staff during these hard times. Good luck gentlemen.

I wanted to comment on our first day. We were excited to open on June 1 and you were too. Thanks to those who came out and were the first to get things started. One thing we noticed was how happy and thankful you were to be able to come back and enjoy the things you love to do. We had private tennis lessons, ACE programs, old friends getting back to their daily tennis match, single hit squash and pickleball too. To ACE, Dani, our staff and everyone who came in, THANK YOU for supporting us. Your kind words and support make all of this easier on us. -- Rob
