We know that this has been a stressful time full of change and uncertainty. With that brings anxiety and a strong need to find a way to bring some normalcy to our lives. How have you been dealing with the wide range of emotions you may be experiencing? Even before the pandemic you most likely heard of meditation as a strategy some use to handle their anxiety. Mediation, in the simplest terms is learning how to pay attention. When used effectively allows you to slow down your ...thoughts and observe the world around you without judgment. This can help reduce the worrying thoughts that race through your head and bring a feeling of calm and balance allowing you to focus and make constructive decisions. Theres an old saying about the eyes being windows to the soul. But the latest medical and dental research shows that the mouth truly is a window into ones overall health. Looking out for a loved ones health means not only keeping an eye on their nutritional intake and physical capabilities, but also on their teeth and gums. Senior dental problems can be common, from dry mouth to periodontal disease, and since oral health directly impacts the health of the rest of the bod...y, these issues need to be taken seriously. Taking care of elderly teeth and gums is just as important as heart or digestive health. Read more here: #seniorhealth #oralcare #familydentistry #drelizabethwatt #victoriabc #seniordentalcare

Cheese, Please! A slice of real cheddar can make a grilled burger so much better. Plus, who doesnt love a cheese platter? Dairy products like milk, yogurt and cheese are low in sugar and rich in calcium and phosphorous, which strengthen and protect enamel. Research also suggests that eating more dairy may lower your chances for developing gum disease. So go ahead and enjoy some cheese! #cheese #dairyproducts #oralhealth #healthyteethandgums #drelizabethwtt #cedartreedental #victoriabc

It is with very mixed emotions we that we annouce that our amazing team member Karen has retired after being a dedicated Certified Dental Assistant for 45 years. We wish her nothing but the best and know that she will truly enjoy well-deserved time with all her friends and family. It makes it a bit easier knowing that she will still be by to catch up and bring us her delicious cookies! Here is a message from Karen: The time has come.......it is with mixed emotions, that I ...am hanging up my gloves and masks after working 45 years as a Certified Dental Assistant. Over my career I have had both the pleasure and privilege of working with many Dentists, Hygienists, Assistants, and Receptionists.....some who taught me and some I taught. And a special thank you to Dr. Olga Dudek, who I spent nearly 3 decades working along side. I will miss many of my patients who have become family, but mostly, I will miss my work family. Sue, Audrey, Shelley.....so many years together, so many changes is our office and our lives. Sam, Leanne, Emme.....it has been a pleasure to work with you. And to Dr. Elizabeth, I thank you for the opportunity to work along side you. You have made the last 6 years fly by, you renewed my interest in dentistry, you challenged me, you encouraged me, you made me a better CDA. We have all shared a lot of laughs, difficult days, fabulous days, stressful days, and of course endless cups of tea and dozens of cookies, not to mention a few bottles of wine, that got us through it all!! As I start my next life chapter, I wish all of you a safe and healthy return to whatever is the new normal. I will be think of you all and will keep the cookies coming!! So off I go to spend relaxing times with Greg, camping in our RV, hopping on our ebikes, collecting as many Tenny cuddles as possible, visiting with family and friends (when its safe to do so), garden, or maybe just spend the day in my pajamas.....with or without the wine. We love you Karen! Dr. Elizabeth Watt and The Cedar Tree Dental Team! #gratitiude #happyretirement #congratulations #cedartreedental #victoriabc

Very interesting article looking at how BLUEBERRIES can lower the risk of tooth decay: Eating just a handful of the fruit a day can fight plaque and gum disease bacteria. I like that it states to have them with meals rather than snacks because of their sugar content. #blueberries #oralhealth #gumdiseaseprevention #toothdecay #familtdentistry #drelizabethwatt #cedartreedental #victoriabc

If you are planning on a BC getaway this summer and enjoy the beauty of our stunning province it is important to still be prepared for emergencies. Before leaving home, consider assembling an inexpensive dental kit to take with you. Ibuprofen or acetaminophen tablets can ease discomfort until you can get emergency care, Orthodontic wax protects sharp edges, especially on braces. Dental cement, some sterile cotton, ice pack and (if applicable) a denture repair kit with adhes...ive may also come in handy. If you do wear a denture, bring along your back-up because you never know when your regular denture might break or get lost. Finally, dont forget your toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, antiseptic mouthwash, antibacterial towelettes, aloe-Vera gel and Chapstick! And remember, stay safe, be calm and be kind! #beprepared #dentalemergencykit #staysafe #becalm #bekind #beautifulbritishcolumbia #familydentistry #drelizabethwatt #cedartreedental
