Slapping raw wood and metal together has become one of my new favourite things. This is a piece of weeping willow tree that generously given to me a few months back. When I got it, it was tough, raw, full of bark and chainsaw markings. I have since added 3 metal hairpin legs and spent many hours transforming it into the piece you see now. And I'm still not quite finished with it. ... But that said, I desperately wanted to get a few shots of it in a living space instead of the dusty confines of a workshop. I'll be adding a few more coats of finish to the surface, the bottom, and another few passes with light grit sandpaper to really get the edges and surface smooth. What do you think? Dabbling with cutting boards. This is a blend of Eastern Maple scraps and Black Locust. I've always wanted to make something like this but just never needed to, or had the time. Since the mid-summer doldrums seem to be at peak (anyone need anything built? lol), I figured now was as good a time as any to experiment. This piece is about 12.5" x 11" and 7/8" thick, finished with food grade butcher block oil. ... The board's got a little bit of a gap at one edge, and the pattern isn't exactly symmetry.
