Anthropologists suspect that dogs’ relationships with women might have had a greater impact on the development of the dog-human bond than their relationships with men.

Recently, one of our technicians, Jaimie, co-authored an article highlighting her experience volunteering with the Home Hospice Associations' Bello Project. "The Bello Project delivers care and compassion to the pets of terminally ill pet owners" - https://www.homehospiceassociation.com/thebelloproject As a clinic that recognizes the incredible importance of the human-animal bond, we hold this organization and the Bello Project very close to our hearts. We applaud Jaimie f...or her efforts to give back to our community, and hope you will take the time to learn more about this important organization! #InTheCommunity #HumanAnimalBond #Volunteer

COVID-19 Lockdown Update: We wanted to let our clients know that the second provincial lockdown, beginning on December 26th, will not impact our services and we will remain open. The Province clarified that as long as veterinary hospitals are able to continue operating on a "curbside" basis, there is no need to limit our operations to urgent care only.... More information from the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association can be found here: https://www.ovma.org/asse/1/6/NewsHound%20Dec21%20Final.pdf

For those of you who know us, and our little girl "Cully", you may know this day was never "supposed" to come. Cully turns 10 today; Cully is a border collie wh...o was born with bi-lateral hip dysplasia. While 10 is a major milestone in any dog’s life, for Cully, reaching such an august age might never have happened. And it wouldn't have happened without the truly heroic efforts of Dr. Nigel Gumley and his team at Cedarview Animal Hospital. Cully had her first surgery at age 6 months, and we were referred to Cedarview for rehabilitation treatments. Over the next several years the Dr. Gumley and specialist rehabilitation technician Sarah Baker would rehab and "pre-hab" Cully through 16 more surgeries. It quickly became clear that Cully would need life long pain management and rehabilitation care and so Dr. Gumley assumed overall responsibility for Cully’s care. However, before Cully reached the age of three, and after 6 failed total hip replacement (THR) surgeries, we were advised that there was nothing more that the surgeon could do for Cully and it was recommended that we consider euthanasia. We were heart-broken, but reconciled that we had to do what was necessary so that Cully wouldn’t suffer. Dr. Gumley was not convinced. He set to work canvassing the surgical community looking for a surgeon to takeover the case. Over time Dr. Gumley amassed a team of talented veterinarians from numerous specialties and at several facilities in Canada and the United States. It was touch and go for a while, as the hardware that nearly killed her was removed in stages. There were many complications to navigate, including a drug resistant bacterial infection that almost killed her. But throughout it Dr. Gumley and Sarah were always there for us, including a Boxing Day night when the two of them met us at the clinic to provide emergency intravenous pain management after yet another dislocation/THR failure. Throughout it all they were never more than a email or call away, and were always dedicated to ensuring that Cully got the best care possible during uncertain times. Today Cully is pain free, and enjoys a wonderful life with less medical intervention than we ever thought could be possible. It is truly a remarkable story, and one that is due principally to Dr. Gumley and his team. Dr. Gumley will be the first to say that there is were were many talented surgeons and other specialists that have helped to get us to where we are today. That is undoubtedly true; but at the hub of this circle of specialists there has always been Dr. Gumley who had the vision to see that this could be possible, and the dedication to mobilize the resources that brought us to where we are today. Thank you Dr. Gumley, Sarah Baker and the team at Cedarview Animal Hospital
