At the start of this year, I had zero intentions of focusing on my business. There have been so many disappointments and setbacks over the past few years. I wanted to take a break and focus on other things. Well, things took a different turn once the city shut down in March. ... I stopped working and had a ton of time on my hands. I figured, why not work on the business? The end of March, I started offering free virtual baking parties for families to help bring some sunshine during these unpredictable times. From there, I started offering Girls Night In and Couples Night In baking parties. Wednesday was bittersweet. I hosted my last baking party until September. I have met so many families over the past four months. I've met Mom's who have never baked a day in their life and are now baking on their own. I have met children who are now decorating cupcakes with great confidence. My favourite session was the Father's Day baking party. I loved watching all the Dad's spending time and baking with their children. Thank you to everyone who baked with us - whether you baked with us once or baked with us every single week. Even if you didn't bake with us but shared my posts or encouraged me to keep doing what I'm doing - thank you! Your support means everything to me. I'm looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces and new faces in September! Here's a few of my favourite desserts that some of the families baked over the past few months.

You know the ones Im talking about: Sweet 16... 25th birthday 50th birthday Etc etc etc I was sooo happy when I got the call last year to make this cake and cupcakes for a 52nd birthday. This Queen didnt wait until her next milestone birthday to go all out. Every year that you turn a year older should be celebrated. The fact that you are alive to see another birthday is reason enough to celebrate. The next time youre contemplating about ordering a cake or some cupcakes for your 27th, 32nd or 48th birthday...just remember that celebrating is a MUST because EVERY milestone is worth celebrating!

I Apple Pie...what about you??? Ive been struggling with not sharing some of the desserts Ive been making over the past few months on my page. I was trying to only post desserts that I specialize in which are cakes, cookies and cupcakes. Well, that is about to stop as of right now! ... Ive been working on my dessert portfolio and mastering pies was on my list. Im really working on being a well rounded baker. Making cakes, cookies and cupcakes is great but there are soooo many other desserts out there that I want to master. Get ready to drool over some of the most gorgeous desserts Ive made since being in quarantine! If theres anything youd love to see me make, let me know in the comments below .

Well hey there Friends & Happy July 1st!!! Can your believe were in the LAST half of the year??? I had sooo many plans for 2020 and being quarantined wasnt one of them! ... Isnt it crazy how things work? Honestly, Im glad things turned out the way they did. I was secretly praying for a break for months and then BOOM!!! COVID-19 happened. Im grateful for all the down time Ive had with my daughter, Zendaya, and for all the baking Ive been doing. Since opening up my new business account, I havent formally introduced myself so here it goes. One thing Ive had some parents ask me over the past few months is why I never pursued a Teaching career. Well, I actually wanted to be a Teacher from the age of 4. My Kindergarten Teacher was my inspiration. As I got older, I decided I didnt want to teach 25+ kids every single day. In 2007, I started teaching piano and did that for 10 years. I met so many families - some of which I still keep in touch with today and I love seeing how much my babies have grown! After closing that chapter of my life two years ago, I knew I still wanted to teach something but I had no clue what to do. The idea of teaching children how to decorate cupcakes came to me and I started doing that in September 2018. I didnt do a lot of that last year but I was planning on restarting that in April. Of course that didnt happen because of COVID. Mid March I saw that one of my Cake Sisters was doing live baking sessions on Instagram so I decided I wanted to do the same but on Zoom. Four months later, Im still running these sessions. Ive met so many families just from offering these sessions. I may not be considered a "real" Teacher in the traditional sense but Ive taught over 100 children how to play the piano and now Im teaching families how to bake. Theres no greater feeling than teaching others the very things you love the most! Id love to hear about you wanted to be when you were younger versus what youre doing now. Did you follow that dream? Yes, I realize that she will learn them when shes ready but that doesnt make it any less frustrating for me. Im always looking for new ways to make learning more fun for her. Last week Zendaya graduated from... PRESCHOOL!!! When I started searching for some graduation cake ideas, I knew I didn't want to do a traditional black and gold or blue and gold cake. I find those colours to be a bit much for a four year old. I decided to do a pastel tye dye themed cake with a pink graduation hat (pink happens to be one of her favourite colours).... This cake was a huge hit!!! Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of what the cake looked like inside. A special thank you to my family and friends who came out to celebrate with us. Its #blackouttuesday! Yes, I know that was last week but Im doing it again. Personally, I think #blackouttuesday should be every week until justice has been served in the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd. The last few weeks have been exhausting for me and the entire Black Community. ... Weve seen an ex white cop and his son murder Ahmaud Arbery while he was jogging. Breonna Taylor was murdered in the comfort of her home by cops. A white cop kept his knee on George Floyds neck for at least 8 minutes until he died. These are only 3 deaths of many that shouldnt have happened. It has taken protests, riots and looting for the entire world to see that we, as a Black Community have had enough! Weve been dealing with racism for decades and the fact that were still dealing with it in 2020 is heartbreaking. I had to have my first racial conversation with my four year old daughter last week and that broke my heart. I have decided that every Tuesday will be #blackouttuesday for me until justice has been served in all three of these murders. On Tuesdays Ill be revisting my history and finding ways that I can help stop the injustices against the Black race. Right now Im putting together a Black Lives Matter dessert menu. All proceeds will go towards one or two Black organizations which I will announce in the next week or so. Im so grateful for all those in the Cake community who are standing with us and voicing their opinions on this matter. Im also grateful for my non-white friends who have reached out in the past few weeks just to see how Im doing. Im hoping youll stand with us in this fight against racism because Black Lives DO Matter.

Today is National Hamburger Day! I made some homemade burgers last weekend and let me tell you, I will not be buying another burger EVER! Making the hamburger buns and patties took me a few hours but it was TOTALLY worth it!!!... I had ketchup, Dijon mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes and some shredded cheese on my burgers. All this burger talk has me wanting to make some more! What are some must haves on your burger? Let me know in the comments below . ...and yes, these are hamburger cupcakes .
