On the right, beside the Irish Ambassador to Canada Dr. Ray Basset, is my brother Joseph "Joe" McGuinness, to whom I owe a great deal indeed as without "the big fella" none of this would have been possible...as it was Joe who encouraged me to move to Canada to pursue my Artistic endeavours....Go raibh Joe...!!!

Hello All, This year is the centenary of the "Easter Rising" in Ireland. The "Charitable Irish Society of Halifax," Nova Scotia, Canada, (where I live now) commissioned me to do a mosaic to memorialise the event. It was inserted into the Celtic cross last Thursday 28th of May here in Halifax by the Irish Ambassador to Canada and the Mayor of Halifax. Need I say, being born and raised in Ireland, it was a huge pleasure and honour to be chosen for a project so near and dear to ...me. I hope you enjoy some pictures of making the mosaic and the event itself. The Mosaic has the "Easter Lily" in the middle. Ireland's symbol of independence and memorial (akin to the poppy for WWI memorial). Always depicted in Green, White and Orange. The colours of the Irish flag. In each corner there is some 'Celtic knotwork" in Green, symbolising the "Four Green Fields" (of the song by Tommy Makem). In which itself symbolised the (remaining) four green provinces of Ireland. The red of the dates depicting struggle, the fury and the destruction in/of Irish history. And of course the Gaelic on one side and the English on the other symbolising the contents of the "Proclamation of Independence" of 1916....Peace for and between both communities on the Island. Slan agus beannacht a chairde.
