The new mortgage stress test guidelines will come into affect June 1st, 2021! OSFI has proposed a tougher floor rate of 5.25%, a raise of 0.46% from our current rate of 4.79%. The stress test qualifies potential buyers using the floor rate and other factors by determining if rates were to rise that the buyer would still be able to meet their financial responsibilities. What does this mean for you? If the proposed guidelines come into, it means that after June 1st, 2021 with t...he same exact financial criteria you will likely qualify for a lower mortgage amount than you would today.
