Hanna, thank you for your wonderful post about our Mandala Art Series and helping to create awareness for people with epilepsy and affected by epilepsy! "Today I followed along to a mandala painting class on Facebook live hosted by @epilepsyseizureedbc promoting art therapy and how it is used to reduce stress and help people with epilepsy! They sent a kit of art supplies to use and talked about how art therapy is used while guiding the painting session. Reducing the stigma a...round neurological disorders by talking about it and learning how to support others with disorders like epilepsy is very important and great to learn about, especially if you have people close to you that are challenged by these disorders daily. I’ll for sure be requesting a package to follow along with their next Christmas mandala session! #epilepsyawareness" #throwback #epilepsypositivity #epilepsysupport https://www.instagram.com/p/CHzLsQmBrAM/

It's time for our annual colouring contest! Take a picture of the finished page and tag us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or send your artwork to us through mail or email at [email protected] for your chance to win! Make sure to include a fact about epilepsy below. The top 3 winners in each age category will receive a gift card and the 2nd and 3rd place winners in each age category will also receive a prize. Contest Deadline: September 14, 2020. Age Groups: Children (8-14), Yo...uth (15-18) & Adults 18+ "Coloring doesn’t only utilize the ‘creative side’ of the brain - focus, concentration and organization skills are functions that are controlled by the frontal lobe. Problem solving and fine motor skills are involved in choosing colors, identifying balance and applying the idea to the page. Because of the calming effects of the concentration involved, coloring has proven to be ideal for patients battling health issues like epilepsy, decreasing the occurrence of epileptic attacks. People living with epilepsy can enjoy an activity they may not have known they could due to the twitches often experienced as a common symptom of the disorder." #EpilepsyAwareness #EpilepsySupport #Art #Stress #Anxiety #CanadianEpilepsyAlliance

Be Water Smart! Many of us will be heading to the beach or lake this summer and it is important to remember that water activities can be more risky for people with epilepsy. Make sure to take the appropriate precautions before getting into the water. To Prevent a Seizure Related Drowning ... - Be aware that a seizure can occur in the water. Stay Alert - Get help - Do not put yourself at risk - Turn the person over if they are face down in the water - Support the head during the seizure - Remove the person from the water AFTER the seizure has stopped - Seek medical attention QUICK FACT: "Blue, polarized sun glasses can be work to help prevent seizures caused by bright or flickering lights and sunlight reflected off the water." Thank you Edmonton Epilepsy Association for creating an informative fact sheet about Epilepsy & Water Safety. http://www.edmontonepilepsy.org//Epilepsy%20&%20Water%20Sa
