Update Covid 19, November 24 The rollercoaster continues today, overall slightly lower than yesterday. We had PE, NT and YT all with zero cases. NL had 2, NB had 5 and NU 10. ... Slightly upward, NS had 37 new cases. In April, when they were hardest hit of any Atlantic Province, they had 55, 46, 43, and 43. This new jump validates the decision of NL and PE to tighten up the borders yesterday. SK had 175 new cases today, down from 235 yesterday, and their lowest number in 4 days. MB had 476 new cases today, down from 546 yesterday, but up from 243 the day before. BC had a new record high of 941. There three previous highs were in the 700s. The government pleas for everyone to be nice, and play by the rules isn’t working, and people who follow the rules are suffering. AB had 1115 new cases today which is a big drop from the 1500s over the past two days. It’s positive but should wait to see how the next few days go. QC had 1124 new cases today which is nearly same as yesterday. ON had some discrepancies in yesterday’s numbers, 1589 was an error. They over counted. We should believe them as nobody would consciously over count, and look really bad. I used their 2-day average of 1299. Let’s see how this turns out over the next few days. Overall it’s more good news than bad because we are down nearly 600 new cases today. Update Covid 19, November 23 A virus is a germ. It needs a host. Me, you, perhaps a dog or cat to infect. There it multiplies and moves to the next host. This one, Covid, is passed through breath, saliva etc. Usually airborne, with a range of 2 meters, it can cling to surfaces and be picked up later. It can take up to 14 days before symptoms to appear. Apparently some people have very mild cases and recover. They may infect many others. What is so difficult about keeping a li...Continue reading

Update Covid 19, November 22 Today Albert led Canada with 1584 new cases. The government of AB isn’t taking action to control rising numbers. Ontario came second with 1534 new cases. Lockdowns are set to go into effect tomorrow. Hopefully Ontario government will follow through with enforcement. ... Quebec had 1154 new cases. They have ranged between 982 and 1301 over the past 10 days. The government seems content with the measures and the numbers. Manitoba had 243. That’s a high number, but it’s their lowest new case count since November 14 and they have been as high as 494 on November 15. There lockdown should begin to result in lower numbers very soon. Numbers in Atlantic moderated a little with NS 11, NB 6, NL 3, PE 0. Let’s hope it holds, and then falls. Nunavut had 21 more new cases. Let’s hope the lockdown works and they have fewer new cases before the recently infected become seriously ill. They have little to no ICU capacity. Update COVID-19 November 21 There are over 5000 new cases today, even without BC as they don’t announce numbers on weekends. Based on the BC’s past week, expect 500-700 from them, so today is a record. There is new records in at least 3 provinces, Ontario(1588), Alberta (1388), and Saskatchewan (439). SK previous high was 308 on November 14. Back in the spring their highest daily case count was 41 on March 30. In the summer they hit 60 on July 22.... Atlantic numbers are, NL 5, NS 8 and NB 23. Update Covid 19, November 20 Alberta reported 1155 new cases today, Manitoba reported 437. Alberta hasn’t mandated the masks yet, the easiest, least expensive measure to reduce the spread of Covid. Ontario had 1418 new cases. Premier Doug Ford has put Toronto & Peele on hard lock downs. Quebec had 1259 new numbers today.... Atlantic is still hanging in, but, largely due to New Brunswick, the case count is creeping up. NB accounted for 9 of the region’s 17 new cases today. Update Covid 19, November 19 Alberta after four days downward, and 730 cases yesterday they had 1105 new cases today. Their previous record was 1026 on November 14. Hopefully this will be a wake-up call for Alberta government, the only jurisdiction not to mandate masks. BC mandated mask today and should see results with week or so. Ontario and Quebec are still playing it out for the highest daily new case count, It was 1210 to 1207 today. ... Atlantic is still doing well, with a combined 6 cases for the day. With Nunavut falling to 4 new cases today, the Territories had just 5 new cases. Yukon has had a travel bubble with BC. They called it off today. A terrible day in Manitoba with 475. That’s their second highest day. They hit 494 on November 15. They have put severe restrictions in place. That’s on paper. Enforcement will be the key. Update Covid 19,September 18 Ontario had big jump today with 401 new numbers. Manitoba had a pretty good spike with 40 given their population. Large new numbers continue in AB, BC and QC. This rapid escalation in new cases, nearly 3 times the number we had a month ago, is a huge problem. Testing is getting bogged down, and hospitals are beginning to fill up. Another weekend is upon us. No news from AB and BC until Monday, when the numbers wont be pretty.... Update Covid 19, September 17 Quebec announced that it missed more than 200 cases over 3 days. I have added them back in on the given days and marked them with an asterisk. Ontario announced restrictions going back in place related to crowd size. They are a few weeks late, but its a move in the right direction, as long as it is enforced!... British Columbia hit another new record of 165 new cases. I think they have to stop pleading with residents, and take strong action. Pleading only works with responsible people. For the sake of everyone, the irresponsible have to be compelled. Alberta announced they are stopping asymptomatic testing, and will test only those with symptoms and those in close contact with them. Apparently they conducted 10,000 tests of asymptomatic people and found only 7 positives. Good move, as long as the freed up resources are used for contact trace. If the Premier would only mandate masks, and lead the charge, Alberta could reduce its new case count really fast. Following are our numbers for today. Update Covid 19, September 16 Another bad day, up to 944 new cases from 787 yesterday. Thats a 20% increase. The larger 4 provinces are adding most of the new cases. Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta have approximately 85% of Canadas population, but they have 96.5% of todays new cases. If small Atlantic provinces, with high and low population density, have few to no new cases, while larger provinces, with both high and low population density have very high new... case counts, it seems that population density plays little to no role in the number of new cases. The people of ON, QC, AB and BC would do well to inform themselves of the successful measures of the smaller provinces, and demand greater accountability from their elected officials Following are our numbers for today. ..Today..Yestday.2 days3 days 4 days ago NL....000...01 NS....00000 NB....001.00 PE.....020.00 QC..303292276279..244 ON..315.251313204..232 MB..23.1721..18....17 SK...10.10.8..17.21 AB...171..124140.173.......105 BC..12291..61.119.......137 YT..0...0.0.....0..0 NT..0.........0.........0..............0..0 NU..00.........0..............0..0 Total .944787.820..810.....736 Windsor and Essex County reported 9 new cases today, 4 are close contact of the confirm positive case, 1 related to travel, 2 are community acquired, 1 in agriculture sector and 1 still under investigation. Update Covid 19, September 15 The 4 largest provinces have contributed most to the new numbers on per capital basis than the smaller provinces today. Saskatchewan, with just over a million people, has 10 cases. To be at the same rate, Alberta with just over 4 million should have 40 cases, but they have 124, so their per capita rate is three times that of their neighbour, Saskatchewan.... Our numbers today are just slightly less than yesterday, 787 compared to 820 yesterday. Ontario had a decent drop, from 313 to 251, but it really needs to be much lower, say less than 100. Quebec has increased every day for the past week and today had 292 new cases. They are reporting 377 school children with Covid 19 till today. Update Covid 19, September 14 Alberta and British Columbia reported three days numbers today. The results were really bad. For the three days, nationally, we had 736, 810 and 820 new cases. We havent passed 800 new cases in a single day since May. The smaller provinces and territories are doing really well, holding the line with only an occasional case, generally a returning resident or an essential worker. When that happens they isolate, contract trace, and stop the spread.... Manitoba and Saskatchewan are still dealing with a steady, but small stream of new cases, but they seem to be managing well. BC posted 61 new cases today. That is their lowest number since September 1, when they had 58. It is too soon to say, because you really need 5,6,7 days for a trend, however it is possible that the new measures they put into place last week are beginning to yield positive results. ON, AB and QC would do well to follow suit. They seem to be in a second wave, without having mastered the first wave, and without having learned much from it. Update Covid 19, September 12 The only good thing about Alberta and British Columbia sitting on their weekend counts until Monday, is that I can post what we have earlier in the day. Its not pretty in Ontario or Quebec today. Quebec was up by 244 new cases and had 6 deaths. Ontario was up by 232 cases and had 1 death.... The only case in Atlantic was in Newfoundland and Labrador. Saskatchewan was up by 21 new cases, Manitoba had 17. None in the Territories. That gives us 515 new cases without Alberta and British Columbia. Update Covid 19, September 10 New cases were up again today in the 4 largest provinces taking us from 546 to 632. Ontario up by 8; Quebec up by 21; British Columbia up by 39; and Alberta up by 15. For BC that was a record number of new cases. Their previous high was 123, just 5 days ago. BC put new restrictions in place 2 days ago. It usually takes a week to know if cases are falling and 2 weeks to be certain. I expect after today BC will tighten up even more, and drive their... numbers down. Update Covid 19, September 9 Modest drop in new cases today, from 610 down to 546, the first time below 600 in a week. Most of the decline was in Alberta, who fell to 98 from 159 yesterday. Ontario fell by 36 cases. Ontarios daily number of tests dropped below 18,000, the first time since August 5. They have been running in the low 20,000s. Perhaps just a coincidence. Only 2 new cases in Atlantic, both in Prince Edward Island. No cases in the Territories, and just 1 in Saska...tchewan. British Columbia, with 5 million population had 2145 cases since August 17. Last evening British Columbia announced closure of Bars and Banquet Halls. This evening Jason Kenney announced on Global news that he wasnt going to micromanage Covid 19 in Alberta. Seems like he has opted to do nothing, abdicating his responsibility to Albertans. Update Covid 19, September 8 For the past 5 days we had over 600 new cases per day. I think the real new cases situation is one to two weeks away, after Canadas children are back to school. The available evidence is that most will suffer only mild infection, but the issue is at home parents and grandparents. They might get infection. British Columbia has just closed the bars and banquet halls. They might still have a chance to get back on track within a few weeks with tight ...rules, strict enforcement, and contact tracing, all of which they proved they could do in the early days. Ontario is a huge province. Strict measures and enforcement should help to keep the numbers down. Quebec had the worst outcomes in Covid 19 death and disease to date. They are now the first to send the children back to school. We will know the effects within two to three weeks. Per capita Alberta is ahead of every other province in new cases. I watched the Premier say that a certain number of infections among school children is inevitable. Following are the updated numbers, assigned to the days they were tested, so you can see numbers per day. ..TodayYestday..2 days3 days4 days ago NL........0.0......0..10 NS.......010.00 NB.......000...00 PE.......2..4...0..01 QC....163..216.205.....175..184 ON....185..190.......158169...148 MB....11...15...29..219 SK......7.11...8.....5......4 AB.....159......137.......171.....154........164 BC.....83.......107.......116......123.......121 NT.00..0.0..0 YT..0..0...........0..........0.....0 NU.0..0...........0..........0.....0 Total...610....681.....687......656.......631 Windsor and Essex County reported 5 new cases today, 3 are close contact of a confirmed case, 1 was travel related outside of North America and 1 still under investigation. Update Covid 19, September 7 Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia did not report new numbers today.I guess the Ford government must have watched Alberta and British Columbia failing to report weekend after weekend, without any consequences, so they decided to take Labour Day off. Public opinion motivates politicians more than any other force. Lets hope people in Ontario register their disapproval over this Labour Day long weekend. Tomorrow expect a huge new case count for... Canada. Likely over 1000. It wont be accurate, or easy to comprehend, because it will include 3 days for Alberta; 3 days for British Columbia; 2 days for Ontario and 1 day for everyone else. Update Covid 19, September 2 Rollercoaster of new numbers continues. Good news first, only 1 case in Atlantic, none in the Territories, and 2 in Saskatchewan. Ontario increased by 21 new cases, going from 112 to 133. These may be manageable numbers for large provinces, but being over 100 new cases per day, for many days, takes a toll on health care and schools are reopening so the danger of large outbreaks is ever present. Update Covid 19, September 1 Another bad day as Alberta registers 164 new cases of the 477 reported nationally. Quebec was second with 122, and Ontario ranked third with 112. In cases per million, Alberta registered a whopping 36.4. Surely Albertans must be asking why they are doing so poorly, when every other province is now doing so much better.... In the early days of Covid in early April, Alberta and British Columbia were running neck and neck in the total number of infections, around 1000 and 1500 each. Then AB numbers began to escalate. However AB took comfort in the fact that BC had a higher Covid 19 death rate. However, BC flattened its curve and deaths, while AB kept escalating. Then the number of AB deaths began to increase until, on July 30, AB passed BC in deaths, 195 to 193. As its number of cases continued to surge, so did its number of deaths. AB now leads BC in cases by 14,066 to 5848, and in deaths by 241 to 209. Given the huge increase in new cases, Albertans should demand better results from their government. Update Covid 19, August 31 Alberta and British Columbia did not report on the weekend. Alberta had a terrible weekend. They had extremely high new Covid 19 cases and a public relations disaster. On Saturday both AB and BC did even worse, AB with 184 new cases, their highest since April 30, combined with BCs 107, giving us a total of 558. Albertas Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena... Hinshaw quietly signed an order removing physical distancing for students and staff in classrooms as they head back to school! Update Covid 19, August 25 Nationally, a good day today. Our new case total of 323 was the lowest since August 11, when we had 289 and our 3rd lowest day to date this month. There are still provinces who need to do better, but overall, given that much of the country has reopened, low 300s seems manageable, as long as they arent concentrated in one area. Ontario led with 100. followed by Alberta 77, Quebec had 62, not such a bad count, given their population, British Columbia... had 58. Manitoba dropped from 49 to 25 today. Update Covid 19, August 24 Alberta and British Columbia announced their weekend numbers today. BC had its worst day on Saturday with 109 new cases. That means they led the nation in new infections, Ontario had one fewer at 108. Alberta reported 83 on Saturday and 106 on Sunday, placing second behind Ontario with 115. ... I have adjusted our daily totals for the weekend to include these late reports. Nationally there is a significant decline with 373 cases. Ontario is still over 100, BC was second with 79, Alberta had 69 and Quebec 68. Manitoba with 49 and Saskatchewan with just 3 accounted for all our cases. Update Covid 19, August 23 We had some good news and some bad news today, the roller coaster continues. The good news is from Atlantic, where they had 3 new cases; Saskatchewan, where they had 3 new cases, and the Territories, where they reported none.... Quebec had a good day, with 30 fewer new cases, falling from 104 to 74; a good sign. Ontario was up to 115 new cases, its third plus 100 new case day in a row. Manitoba had an awful day, jumping to 72 new cases from yesterdays 42, which was its previous high number. Many of these new cases are being attributed to Hutterite communities, which is true, and some people seem to be stigmatizing them. However, these infections dont originate in Hutterite communities, they originate from outside their communities, so it is unfair to attribute any negativity to them. Nevertheless, Manitoba now has a full blown outbreak in the community that requires a strong response before it becomes even worse. Following are last 4 days numbers. ..TodayYestday..2 days ago3 days ago NL.............00.0.0 NS.............21.0.1 NB.............1...0.2.0 PE..............00.0.0 QC...........74..104....93..86 ON.........115108...131..76 MB..........72..42...34...33 SK............3..2...6..4 AB.........???.........???.......144..103 BC...........??..........??.........90...80 YT.....0.0...00 NT.......0............0..........0......0 NU.......0............0..........0.0 Total 267.257...500383 Around the world, the reopenings are not going well. The new infection rates for Spain and France have skyrocketed over the past week or so and are now in the 5,000 7,000 daily range. Japan had its number down to a few dozen per day back in June. Then in August Covid came roaring back to more than double the number they had in April. On April 11, 743 new cases. On August 3, 1998 new cases. The lesson here is that if these modern, progressive democracies, who are blessed with universal health care, can experience such setback, so can Canada. In my opinion we need to be prepared for second wave, and to stay focused on precautions for as long as we dont get an effective vaccine. Windsor and Essex County reported 7 new cases today and all of them are resident of the retirement home and 2 are staff members of the retirement home in Leamington. Update Covid 19, August 22 Today no report from Alberta or British Columbia. Of the remaining Provinces and Territories, Ontario and Quebec had a poor day and Manitoba was much worse. Ontario had 108 new cases, Quebec 104, Manitoba had 42 new cases, their highest daily case count ever. Their previous high was 40 new cases just 8 days ago. Update Covid 19, August 21 New numbers gone up today with 500 cases. Alberta led the way, not in a good way, with 144 new cases. Ontario followed with 131, although the Minister of Health was quick to point out it was an overestimation, as todays count included cases that werent reported yesterday because of issues in getting numbers from 11 areas. I assume that people will not be impressed by the term overestimation. To me it speaks of a lack of precision, or inattention... to actual case counts. People are looking up to health care professionals and politicians for leadership and to show the way forward. Precision, transparency and action plan instills more confidence. Quebec had 93 new cases and British Columbia had 90, and now the new school years is upon us. School opening plans seem to be a haphazard patchwork of good intentions and risktaking. If the four larger provinces cant contain Covid 19 in the general population, we can expect to see surges in numbers 10 14 days after millions of children return to school. But it is also important to have our children get back to the classrooms, with well thought out plan. Update Covid 19, August 20 New numbers are up again today. We are showing 383, but Ontario says a glitch means that 11 of its health authorities did not report, so were likely over 400 new cases. Atlantic Canada, all the territories and Saskatchewan had good days. Saskatchewan is a good news story. After several days in the 20 30 range, they have had only 10 cases in the past 4 days. ... Alberta had another bad day. Its 103 cases leads the nation, however Ontario may be in the same range when the numbers from the 11 non-reporters come in. Quebec had 86, their worst day in nearly a week. Two days ago they had just 46 new cases. Lets hope this isnt the beginning of a new surge. British Columbia is struggling with 80 new cases today. Update Covid 19, August 17 Reports came in from Alberta and British Columbia for the weekend and there is lots to discuss. On Saturday Alberta reported 177 new infections, its worst in a long time. British Columbia reported 100 new cases, its highest new case count ever. Their previous high was 91, back in March. Together AB and BC combined for 277 new cases on Saturday, accounting for 54% of Canadas new cases that day.... On Sunday BC led Canada with 88 new cases, followed by Alberta with 86. Together their 174 new cases accounted for 46% of Canadas new cases. Together AB and BC have less than one quarter of Canadas population. Today was somewhat better, as our new case count declined to 338. Ontario had 99, while Alberta had 96. Quebec impresses the most, declining to 55 new cases today. Somebody is on the ball there.
