Sure, exercise gets the heart pumping, but it also boosts cerebral and mental health! When you exercise, theres an increase in blood flow to the brain which results in a boost in cognitive capabilities. Whether you swim a few laps, lift weights, cycle or run, the physical activity you do can help sharpen your mental performance. It can even enhance your ability to learn something new. An increase in brain-derived neurotrophic factor, which stimulates brain cell growth, i...s another benefit of exercise. Emotional health may improve with exercise, too. Working out is an effective and natural way to relieve stress, anxiety and even depression. Exercise also helps keep the brain spry. In addition to working out, getting regular chiropractic adjustments can help keep your nervous system in tip-top shape, so book in with Dr. Pankiw, Dr. Stuckel, Dr. Papish or Dr. Ruecker today! We are all guilty of reaching for a bottle of pills when we start feeling pain, but how many more pills will it take to actually fix the problem? The truth is, there is NO amount of pills that will fix your problem, theyll just mask your symptoms until they wear off and you begin feeling the same pain again. Pain is your bodys way of telling you that something is wrong, so by simply masking the pain youre ignoring your bodys natural warning signals and therefore not d...irectly addressing the cause of the problem. Here at Central Avenue Health Centre we want to get to the root cause of your problems instead of masking the pain. Thats why our chiropractors will do a thorough history and examination, a backscan, and potentially send you for x-rays if they believe it is necessary. This ensures that we are able to give you a full picture of what is causing your pain, and what the best course of action is to get rid of it for good! So instead of reaching for pills next time youre in pain, give us a call and book in with one of our chiropractors! See more

At Central Avenue Health Centre, we regularly backscan our patients to check for nerve interference and to monitor progress. A backscan is an objective, pain-free way to detect nerve interference and to track progress and uncover the degree of nerve interference, especially when obvious symptoms may not be experienced yet. sEMG (surface electromyography) measures the level of electrical current in the nerves that control the muscles and organs of your body.... The backscan results will help our chiropractors and RMTs pinpoint specific areas of nerve interference and therefore give you the best customized treatments possible. Call us today at 306-651-2225 to schedule a backscan appointment and find out if you have any nerve interference! See more

This review is so amazing! Keep reading for the full review! "Wow I dont even know where to begin! Ive been seeing chiropractors for the better part of 13 years, and never once received the care and dedication I received in my first two visits. Coming from out of town I had tweaked my back at work the day before and my regular chiro was on holidays. Called in the morning and they got me in that afternoon. Listened to my history and took a very good look at my whole s...pine rather than just my lower half that Ive become accustomed to the last few years at the chiro. Suggested I go for X-rays and to come back the following day for a follow up and another adjustment. Im so fortunate to have been able to get into Dr Pankiw, he found the problem that no one else has been able to. In just two short days my back was feeling great again when usually its a week or two when I was out as much as I was this time. I cant thank that staff at CAHC enough. The road to a better back has been paved by these knowledgeable professionals. If your looking for a chiropractor look no further than CAHC youd be silly to go elsewhere. I will make the 2 hr trip now to see them when I need adjusting, very worth it! Thanks again CAHC team." See more

Is working from home wearing on your spine? Try these 3 simple tips: 1. Lift your laptop: If youre using your laptop at the kitchen table or at a desk in your office, it might be positioned too low causing neck strain. To fix this, try placing a few books or a shoebox underneath it so you are looking directly at the screen. 2. Stand up: You dont need an expensive standing desk. A simple hack like placing a large cardboard box on your kitchen table or desk can raise your... laptop enough to be effective. Try to alternate between sitting and standing throughout the day. 3. Go wireless: Wireless headphones are affordable game-changers. A wireless headset can relieve the strain an extended cell phone call puts on your neck, plus allow you more freedom to stretch and walk around while talking. If working from home is putting extra strain on your back and neck, it may be time for an adjustment! Give us a call and schedule your next visit today! See more

Some of our patients wonder if they can combine chiropractic, massage therapy and acupuncture during the same visit. The short answer is YES! Depending on your symptoms, our chiropractors may recommend massage therapy or acupuncture to facilitate the chiropractic adjustments. In some cases though, all three treatments may be beneficial. Massage therapy is good for relaxing the muscles and removing adhesions while acupuncture is good for reducing inflammation and increasin...g blood flow. All these benefits will help achieve your chiropractic goals, which may include improving function, reducing pain, and reducing nerve tension! Massage, acupuncture and chiropractic are all complimentary treatments and when you add the benefits of all three together, it will help ensure the body is functioning optimally. Talk to your chiropractor at your next appointment to see what other treatments you should incorporate into your treatment plan! See more

The amount of sleep we get greatly impacts every aspect of our daily lives, from our mood to our energy to our bodys natural healing abilities. And its no surprise that a lot of us are having trouble sleeping given the current worldwide health crisis. So what can we do today to better prepare our bodies for a restful nights sleep? Get outside! Studies show that exposure to sunlight helps calibrate your bodys circadian clock, which regulates everything from appetite... and sleep schedules to mood and energy levels. One of the best ways to calibrate our internal clock is by spending about 45 minutes outdoors each day, ideally in the morning. Even on a cloudy day or covered up with sunglasses and protective clothing, we still get enough natural light just being outdoors to reap the benefits. Plus, who couldnt use a walk in the fresh air to clear their head? See more

Got back pain? Youre not alone. Consider these dos and donts to help you get through it. DO: Strengthen your core. Regular exercise strengthens important core muscle groups including obliques, pelvic floor and deep abdominals. DONT: Sleep on your stomach. Stomach sleepers put the largest amount of pressure on their spine, head and neck at night, leading to pain during the day.... DO: Stay hydrated. Because most of our body is water, it needs proper, steady intake to keep it functioning properly. If youre thirsty, youve waited too long. DONT: Sit for long periods of time. If you sit behind a desk all day set a reminder to get up and move at least once each hour. DO: Get your spine checked. You shouldnt have to live in pain, and chiropractic care can help correct the underlying issue. Give us a call at 306-651-2225 and book in with one of our chiropractors to get your spine checked! Heighten your brainpower by learning a little more about your nervous system with some truly amazing facts: The spinal cord consists of nearly 13.5 million neurons. The most sensitive are found at the base of your spinal cord. Nerves are made up of long bundles of fiber called axons that also contain nerve cells. Bonus fact: The two types of nerve cells found within your body are called neurons and glial cells.... If all of the neurons in your brain were lined up, they would form a path about 600 miles long! Think your car is fast? Signals travel between your brain and body at speeds over 200 MPH! Of the 43 pairs of nerves that connect your central nervous system, 31 are attached to your spinal cord - which is the primary focus of chiropractic care! Take good care of your nervous system by getting regular chiropractic care! Give us a call to book in today! See more

Acupuncture is an ancient healing art that dates back to 5000 years ago. It involves needles being carefully inserted at specific points in your body to combat disease and strengthen the bodys natural repair mechanisms. It is said in Oriental medicine that chi, or energy, circulates in specific pathways in the body. If there is balance, the energy flows smoothly as it should and you are healthy.... If an imbalance is present, however, blockages arise along the pathways, creating illness. By placing the acupuncture needles, the blockages can be freed up so that energy flows through the body and health is restored. If you want to ensure that energy is flowing freely through your body, give us a call and book in for an acupuncture appointment! See more

This change can cause discomfort or pain as well as have other negative impacts on your health. For example, subluxations in the lumbar vertebrae can cause cold feet, bowel problems and infertility because those are the areas that are innervated b...y the nerves that come out of that section of vertebrae. Are you having troubles falling asleep and staying asleep? Here are 6 tips to help you get a better sleep! 1. Keep up your body's natural sleep-wake cycle by going to sleep and getting up at the same time every day, avoid sleeping in, be smart about napping, and fight after-dinner drowsiness. 2. Control your exposure to light. Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone controlled by light exposure that helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle and your brain secretes more me...latonin when it's dark which makes you sleepy. 3. People who exercise regularly sleep better at night and feel less sleepy during the day because regular exercise improves the symptoms of insomnia and sleep apnea and increases the amount of time you spend in the deep, restorative stages of sleep. 4. Be smart about what you eat and drink by limiting caffeine and nicotine, avoiding big meals at night, avoiding alcohol before bed, avoiding drinking too many liquids in the evening, and cut back on sugary foods and refined carbs. 5. Take steps to manage your overall stress levels and learn how to curb the worrying habit by developing a relaxing bedtime ritual to help prepare your mind for sleep such as practicing a relaxation technique, taking a warm bath, or dimming the lights and listening to soft music. 6. A peaceful bedtime routine sends a powerful signal to your brain that it's time to wind down and let go of the day's stresses. Do this by keeping noise down, keeping your room cool, making sure your bed is comfortable, and reserve your bed for sleeping. We hope these tips help you get a better sleep and wake up feeling rested! See more

When you cut sugar out of your diet you're getting rid of useless calories, which could ultimately help with weight loss. Replacing sugar with things like fiber and protein allows you to feel fuller for longer while still reducing your overall caloric intake. Because sugar is quite addictive, there is a good chance you will experience some withdrawal symptoms when trying to cut them out, this is because when your body becomes used to certain substances, removing those subst...ances sends your body into a state of shock. This shock can cause headaches, upset stomach, or disruption in bowel activity. These withdrawal symptoms can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Some ways you can get through the withdrawal periods include upping your water intake or by chewing on gum or snacking on fruit for a sweet taste with added fibre. Once you overcome the initial withdrawal, your overall energy should improve. Some things you may notice are: -Improvement in your hair, skin and nails -Change in cravings -Increased performance in the gym -Increased productivity at work -Decreased body fat -Better sleep cycles There are many different factors that play a role in how your body reacts to the removal of sugar including genetics, presence of risk factors, physical activity level, carb/sugar sensitivity, age, and gender. Since everybodys different, these positive changes can happen at different times, but for some people its possible to start to see, taste and feel changes in as early as three days! See more

After initial evaluation, your chiropractor will come up with a treatment plan that is unique based on your individual needs. This unique treatment plan is what your chiropractor believes would be best for you moving forward to help align your spine, reduce nerve tension and restore function. There are three kinds of treatment plans: 1. Corrective: the purpose of this treatment plan is to correct the patients' original health concern to get the patient out of significant... discomfort and improve overall health and is on a more frequent basis (ex: three times a week for four weeks with a reassessment after) 2. Maintenance: the purpose of this treatment plan to maintain the healthy tissues in the body with regular care. These treatments are not as frequent as corrective, but are frequent enough to maintain the corrected condition of your spine (ex: once every week or once every two weeks) 3. Wellness: the patient has graduated from corrective and maintenance care and are now experiencing the benefits of chiropractic care. Patients in this phase are reaching their full potential and living a vibrant life. (ex: once every two weeks or once a month) If your treatment plan is not followed, there will be set backs in your progress, sometimes even back to the original starting point. For this reason, it is important to follow through with the entire treatment plan that is provided to you by your chiropractor. Give us a call at 306-651-2225 to book your next appointment! See more

For thousands of years people have turned to acupuncture to treat back pain, headaches, fertility and more. But did you know that it can help manage the cravings and withdrawals that often come when trying to quit smoking? Stress is one of the key components in triggering a craving when withdrawing from nicotine. Acupuncture is designed to reduce stress and help relax your body and can be beneficial in helping avoid nicotine cravings. It also decreases levels of agitation a...nd anxiety, curbing cravings and lessening irritability. Acupuncture promotes relaxation and helps detoxify the body. It can also restore the body's equilibrium and help with the healing process. Our acupuncturist will place small, ear press needles in your ear that can remain for up to one week or until your next appointment, whichever comes first. We do this because when you get home, cravings are bound to strike. When they strike, applying slight pressure to the pain-free needles in your ear can help ease the craving. Smoking cessation comes first and foremost from a genuine desire to quit and only you can make that decision. Ready to give acupuncture a try? Have you ever wondered, Can chiropractic adjustments give me arthritis? In order to answer this question, its important for you to understand what happens during an adjustment. When you adjust a joint, you are moving it past its active and passive ranges of motion into what is called the Paraphysiological Space. When this happens, there is a change in pressure inside the joint that causes a gas bubble to form, resulting in a popping sound.... Chiropractic adjustments help align the spine and reduce joint restrictions in an effort to reduce inflammation and improve function of both the affected joint and nervous system. By increasing joint mobility and improving your nervous system function and spinal health, your body has the ability to better manage symptoms caused by arthritis. Therefore, joint movement is an indicator of health and creating movement in a joint is actually a good thing! In fact, movement in the joint can actually delay or prevent the development of osteoarthritis. So next time when someone tells you to stop cracking your joints, you can tell them that it is actually keeping your joints healthy! Learning the art of adjusting is a skill that requires years of study and practice, and our chiropractic doctors are experts at it! Cupping is a type of alternative therapy that originated in China. It involves placing hot cups on the skin to create suction which may facilitate healing with blood flow. During a cupping treatment, hot cups are placed on your skin where an adhesion (knot) is. The air inside the cup then cools and creates a vacuum that draws the skin and muscle upward into the cup. While the cup is on your skin, the massage therapist will then massage around the area, further relaxing the ...muscles. Some benefits of cupping include: -Reducing muscle tension -Releasing restricted connective tissue -Increasing circulation -Increasing range of motion If you think you could benefit from this type of therapy, give us a call at 306-651-2225 and book in with one of our massage therapists today! Many people that suffer from long-term chronic pain use opioids as a sleep aid to take away pain and to stop sleep from being disrupted. It is now believed that there hasnt been enough research done to assess the benefits and the risks of using painkillers for the purpose of improving sleep quality. Patients who were prescribed opioids report a small improvement in sleep quality, but that was not consistent with results derived from sleep assessment technologies (such as ...total sleep time and the percentage of time in deep sleep). Opioids are known to affect the part of the brain that controls your breathing, which means that using opioids to help you sleep could potentially create sleep apnea events where individuals experience pauses or obstructions in breathing. While there seem to be some benefits of being prescribed opioids for short-term management, it is unclear what the long-term effects on your body are. While opioid addictions and overdoses continue to be on the rise, it is important to avoid relying on prescription drugs as the only source of pain relief. Here are a few things to try instead of opioids to help you sleep: -Stick to a regular sleep schedule 7 days per week -Exercise at least 30 minutes per day -Establish a regular, relaxing bedtime routine -Do relaxation exercises before bed -Go to bed when youre sleepy and get out of bed if youre tossing and turning -If youre unable to fall asleep after about 20 minutes, leave bed and do something relaxing and then return to bed later -Chiropractic Treatments -Massage Therapy -Acupuncture If you're struggling to get a good nights sleep, talk to one of our staff at your next visit to see what we can do to help! Greater than 76% of new patients come to a chiropractic clinic due to persistent back pain. Because most back pain complaints are chronic or recurrent in nature, it is understandable that once improvement has been achieved, chiropractors aim to prevent future back pain. Chiropractors usually do this by scheduling additional appointments that are further apart for their patients after their initial treatment plan is complete, but is this really necessary? The answer is Y...ES! If you follow patients who discontinued care for back pain, 60-70% will experience pain again over a year later. In most cases back pain is an episodic condition that comes and goes. Having regular chiropractic adjustments is crucial in managing stress, therefore aids in preventing future episodes of back pain. It also helps in reducing severity of future episodes. So, even though your initial pain may be gone, it is still very important to remain on maintenance care to prevent any future pain.
