Central Butte School 11.01.2021

Today was a great day at CBS. Lots of festive apparel, a belated birthday surprise, a ‘Grinchmas’ celebration, and some littles who in their own words made a lot of people happy today. Being raised by a village seems to be paying off, these kids have a lot of things figured out.

Well we learned some things about baking, math and the importance of structural integrity. We have a new found respect for those baking shows! Not as easy as it may seem. If anyone in the community wants to share their own Gingerbread house masterpieces we would love to see them! Thanks to Ms. Arguin for having the courage to take on this task!

A huge thank you to Ms. Wilson for taking time to 'read' the last chapters of our OneSchoolOneBook to the grade 1 & 2's students despite the challenges of self-isolation. It could be that we would all benefit from taking Humphrey's advice on "The Care and Feeding of Humans". Thank you to everyone in the community who joined in with our activities and shared this experience with the students of CBS!

Central Butte School 20.08.2020

New kind of club got started at CBS today. Different kind of ‘athletics’. Some members were more enthusiastic than others but everyone was a good sport! To quote one of the greats - if you put in the work, the results will come. Our bigs have definitely had an interesting start to their senior year but they aren’t letting the other stuff curb their character!

Central Butte School 10.08.2020

Hey everyone!! We have decided to extend cookie sales to Wednesday, December 16!! Thank you to everyone who have bought cookies!

Central Butte School 05.08.2020

The Entrepreneurship 30 class has been working hard! Remember to get your cookie dough orders in. The deadline to order is Wednesday to ensure you get it before Christmas.

The Grade 9/10's have been curious about the fact that many societies, such as William's community, still operate using the barter system. They would like to know what people in our community might trade for goods and services if you didn't have cash money? Most of them agreed that a barter system is a good system. Some of the things the students would trade include: - clothes or other things they have lots of - belongings... - anything non-essential such as toys, books, rugs, electronics - my brother is what I would trade, I would like a new one - I would trade items of common interest to other people - babysit, cut grass P.S. We have been enjoying your comments and shares on Facebook. We have been printing them off and posting them on our bulletin board so all the students can read them. Keep it up Central Butte!

Growing up in small town Saskatchewan means we know something about agriculture! The grade 11 & 12's were contemplating the effects of the environment and crop production in Africa. Massive drought so they couldn't grow maize combined with floods that washed away fertilizer and seedlings would lead to a cycle of bad crops. Understanding the difficult cycle that if you can't afford fertilizer, and without fertilizer you can't grow a good enough crop to make enough money for fertilizer, is a real hardship faced by the Malawi people. We wonder about some of the most difficult environmental issues that farmers in our area have faced over the years? We would love to hear your stories...

Thank you Ms. Hallbourg and Ms. Menzies for a great Supporting Early Reader session last night! One of the good messages from the night included making sure kids see us, the adults, reading from something other than our devices. Another important message was that kids really are watching how we read books - how it flows, how we flip the pages, how we read from left to right. Some kids come to school not knowing how books ‘work’, it’s not something they just know- they have to learn that somewhere. It’s never too early to start!

Central Butte School 13.04.2020

Today the grade 9 & 10's were wondering what things would be like for them if they didn't have electricity. They all agreed that life for them would be very different and for many things it would be a lot harder. Some of them thought that their life may actually be more eventful because they would read more, spend less money, or likely do more things outside instead of being on their phones/electronics so much. They would be interested in hearing stories from people who may remember a time when electricity wasn't just something that you could take for granted.

We are looking forward to the excitement (and learning) these two will bring to our classrooms!

Central Butte School 13.02.2020

The grade 7&8 class started their OneSchoolOneBook today and we already have some questions and would love to hear what others thought... 1. How did the "wizard" make the man come back to life? Carter S. 2. Why are the doctors so far away from his village? Why can't they be in his village? Jariz G.... 3. How will he figure out how to make the windmill? 4. Why do cats not have names in Malawi?

Central Butte School 28.01.2020

Today we read Chapter 1 of The World According to Humphrey and we are on the hunt for some pen pals. Every Monday we will be writing letters to the community: making predictions, asking questions, and telling stories. These letters will be dropped off at Iver Main Place, the Manor, and to community members who are reading the book with us. A few letters have been posted here, we hope that you will use the comment section to write us back. Happy Reading! Grade 5/6 ... If you want to share your thoughts on Facebook we would be excited to respond.
