Tuesday, December 1st, Central Cariboo Search and Rescue was tasked out by RCMP for two stranded snowmobilers within the Likely area backcountry. Mid day, Wednesday, December 2nd the two snowmobilers were located by a helicopter. Teams were able to ski in to their location, and get them out via snowshoe. This was an extraordinary team effort by Central Cariboo Search and Rescue, Prince George Search and Rescue and South Cariboo Search & Rescue. Thank you to PGSAR and SCSAR fo...r their mutual aid. During every stage of this rescue the team's worked with a highly trained Avalanche Safety Officer out of PGSAR. The Avalanche Safety Officer looks at considerations such as snow pack, weather and also tests the snow in the rescue area. These very important steps are done to ensure the safety of everyone responding and those we are looking for/rescuing. This task out was the second search/rescue for CCSAR in the past week, and the third for PGSAR. You may be thinking to yourself "that would never happen to me" or "how do people get themselves into this situation". The truth of the matter is that this can happen to anyone, at any time. The outdoors is a very dynamic place. The environment changes around you every second. The choices you make also contribute to that environment. No matter your skill level, there is always a high chance that you may find yourself in an emergency situation. Yes, it will happen to you. Yes, you will be that person. Yes, you may need Search and Rescue/Emergency help one day. Today we are talking about snowmobing/winter sports. Follow BC AdventureSmarts Three Ts to keep yourself safe, and enjoy the great outdoors; Train, Take the Essentials and Trip Plan -Train: know your equipment (snowmobile, skis, snowshoes, etc), know the area, stay within your skill and knowledge level -Take the Essentials: wear an Avalanche receiver, avalanche pack, proper gear with EXTRAS (gloves, snow suit, toque, helmet, etc), food, water, emgerency blankets, fire starter, first aid kit, shovel, a radio to take to your riding/adventure buddies and *communication with a safety contact*. A cellphone is not a reliable communication method. Please consider bringing with you an InReach and SPOT or any of the many other options. These communicate via satellite and are designed for that purpose. -Trip Plan: Always tell someone exactly where you are going, when to expect you back, who you will be left and what to do if you miss your check ins and/or do not arrive back. Take a look at the BC AdventureSmart website for more information. Be safe this winter.

Today day we remember. The parades may not be happening, and the ceremonies may look different this year, nevertheless, we remember. Central Cariboo Search and Rescue Chief Rick White will be laying a wreath today on behalf of First Responders. The Williams Lake Tribune will be showing the Remembrance Day ceremony virtually, on Facebook. We encourage everyone to tune in; https://www.facebook.com/WLTribune/videos/1668682109981150... Remember those who have fallen for our freedoms. Remember the great sacrifices they made, and the sacrifices that those who serve today, continue to make. Lest we forget ---------- In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. Canadian Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae

The Central Cariboo Search and Rescue LandSAR team has been dispatched to the Alexis Creek area for a report of three overdue individuals. Six of our dedicated volunteers are en-route with two rescue trucks, while two members are at base running communications. The weather outside continues to be poor please stay safe across the Cariboo tonight. UPDATE: ... We are happy to report that all three subjects were located in good health and our teams have returned back to the hall safely. Have a safe day, everyone!

Ohhh the weather outside is frightful, but being prepared can make it delightful! What a busy week it has been, and its only Wednesday! Auto Extrication has been active with multiple call outs each day. It hasn't been uncommon to receive more than one call out at a time. Fortunately, CCSAR has four rescue vehicles and many highly dedicated professional volunteers. When these situations do occur we simply send a vehicle, equipment and team of members to each call out. ... CCSAR has also had times where Land Search and Rescue and Auto Extrication received call outs at the same time. In these instances, we are able to utilize our four rescue vehicles, and depending on the nature of the Land Search and Rescue call out, we may use our Jet Boat, ATVs, UTV, Snowmobiles and any other equipment needed. Once again we want to remind everyone to drive per the road conditions. Plan your route by checking Drive BC for road conditions, and give yourself adequate time to reach your destination. Obey traffic laws and respect First Responders on the road. If you are going to be out enjoying winter activities such as; snowmobiling, ice fishing, hiking, etc, please remember the BC AdventureSmart Three Ts. Trip Plan, Train and Take the Essentials. Please do your part to keep yourself, and your community, safe.

Winter has arrived, but are YOU ready for winter driving? CCSAR has been called out 7 times today for various Motor Vehicle Incidents. With winter weather comes these few reminders; ... -Drive to the road conditions. This means SLOW DOWN. Take your time. Plan your route so you are not rushed. -Clear off your entire vehicle before getting on the road. -Allow for the appropriate amount of space between yourself and other vehicles. This also means to give yourself alot of time to stop and make turns. -Ensure your vehicle is winter equipped. This means winter dedicated tires, as well as, items for emergencies: a small shovel, first aid kit, blankets, reflective triangles, a high visibility vest, etc. -Lastly, please be cautious of First Responders on the road. Slow down and move over. If you see/hear lights and sirens, please safely pull over and give them the space they need to respond. Thank you from everyone at Central Cariboo Search and Rescue.
