Earlier this month, the MScPT students at U of T kicked off their Orientation Month with the OPA CTD-sponsored Amazing Race Scavenger Hunt event! New students were introduced to the city by completing challenges around the downtown core, including a fake marriage proposal at Nathan Phillips Square and a relay race at King's College Circle. Each member of the winning team won a Tim Horton's gift card and assorted OPA swag. Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to all the students and volunteers who participated in the 2018 OPA Amazing Race Scavenger Hunt!

The Neuro 101 course is coming up June 2-3, 2013! The Neuro Physio 101 course was developed in answer to requests for a Neuro physio course that was not based in any one treatment philosophy. It is intended to highlight current thinking and evidence-informed practice that touches on different treatment approaches, and covers a variety of clinical conditions and functional impairments. While called Neuro Physio 101, it is assumes that participants have a basic level of knowled...ge of both neuro-anatomy and neuro-physiology and hands on skills. Intermediate level clinicians may benefit from the consolidation of information and the treatment tips accumulated by two seasoned neuro clinicians, or if wanting to broaden their knowledge across conditions or to a less familiar practice area. Wendy Sarsons and Jacquie Levy have many years of experience in neuro rehabilitation across the spectrum of ages and practice settings. Jacquie Levy is a board certified clinical physiotherapy specialist in neuro-sciences. The course was run in Ottawa in the fall and was attended by practitioners across the spectrum from seasoned generalists to clinicians working in neuro rehab in the hospitals and rehab centre. Included are some comments from the course evaluation. "It was a great broad overview, just what I needed" "An excellent course for any PT wanting to practice in the neuro domain or wishing to refresh their knowledge of neuro conditions and updated intervention techniques. Definitely a course to recommend. " "Loved all the practical advice and treatment focus and creative approaches" "Very knowledgeable and insightful lecturers" " Great course, a lot of material, I think almost each section could be a separate course. " "Great course but felt it was Neuro 101 and 102 put together, there was so much info on some topics" To register, please visit: https://opa.on.ca/professional-developme/course-listings//

Happy PT Month from the Central Toronto District! On May 10th, CTD celebrated National Physiotherapy Month by hosting a session on Pelvic Health Physiotherapy with Physiotherapist, Carolyn Vandyken. We had a great turnout of about 45 people, including clinicians, students, and community members. We learned about the important of our pelvic floor, how it can potentially contribute to common musculoskeletal issues, and when it is necessary to seek or refer a patient to a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist. Thank-you to Carolyn for helping us celebrate PT month with an engaging and informative session, and allowing us to realize the importance of our pelvic health with respect to our daily activities!
