The 16th* Annual Hoopfest BC Tournament weekend has come to an end :( While we regretfully acknowledge Covid-19 for going undefeated and taking the championship, tournament officials have agreed that for the first time in the history of the event, the championship team will not be invited back again next year for numerous reasons. To all the players, fans and community supporters of the Hoopfest BC Tournament, it is with great sadness that this post is being written. For the past fifteen years, it has been a great pleasure to provide a community event that brings together some of the most talented basketball players in the province (and friends from around North America) together for a great weekend of hoops and reuniting as friends. Due to the current and ongoing challenges of Covid-19 and in accorda...nce with all public health authority directives, we unfortunately announce that the 16th Annual Hoopfest BC Tournament (with the best interest of all involved) will be canceled this summer. As organizers, the safety of the athletes, referees, volunteers, vendors, spectators and everyone who attends and supports the tournament is in our main interest. Our goal is to return to the hardwood in 2021 to not only reunite as teammates and competitors but as an extended family for a great community event. For those that are returning to school or their professional teams in the fall, we wish you the best of luck and will continue to follow and support your journey. To all the old-timers and Men's League grinders, hopefully, our paths will cross soon. Thank you again to all of our community supporters who have helped build our event since day one and to all the players who have suited up and competed in the past fifteen tournaments. Although the world is currently going through its own crazy time, a local member of the Hoopfest BC alumni (and former Langara Falcon) is dealing with a very serious and trying issue of her own. Carling Muir (with Andrew Sturgeon and her family by her side) has been courageously battling brain cancer since 2006 and now faces a new set of challenges. Congratulations to 64th Avenue for capturing the 15th Annual Hoopfest BC Tournament Championship with an undefeated record and an exciting 96-93 victory over Vancity! During the 15th Annual Hoopfest BC Tournament an amazing 339 three pointers were cashed in over the course of the sixteen game schedule for an average of 21 threes per game.
