[NEW REVIEW] A Mural From a Christmas Past Comes to Haunt This Holiday Season, by Vince Cherniak. "Moving into a second lockdown period, I found myself wondering what might sustain me this time through. And another artwork came to mind, a holiday season mural from a Christmas past. But this one, surprisingly, was an amateur work." Guest writer Vince Cherniak discovers what he needs this particular COVID holiday season: https://zcu.io/bo6t ... [NEW REVIEW] Centred offers a new review by senior writer Nida Home Doherty, digging deep into her experience with the work of Michèle Pearson Clarke, Trinidad-born artist who works in photography, film, video and installation. Pearson Clarke's 3-video installation Suck Teeth Compositions (After Rashaad Newsome) was presented at the Forest City Gallery. Read the full review here: https://zcu.io/069N "Michèle’s comment forced me to question my own perceptions and understandings. What was Michèle saying about the white perception of black communities? And as a white senior woman myself, what was Michèle saying about me and my own perceptions of blackness? What racial prejudgments or limited perceptions of blackness do I have?" Dance Me to the End of Love : On this somewhat drab winter day, enjoy a unique virtual exhibition curated by Linda Jansma at the Woodstock Art Gallery. Playfully dancing through the lyrics of Leonard Cohen’s iconic song, Dance Me to the End of Love, brings ideas of love and beauty to our home where it’s cozy, with selected artworks of the WAG’s permanent collection. Have you read Nida’s excellent review about the abstract work of Ron Kingswood? https://zcu.io/bBML [Image: Ron Kingswood, Claire (2013), Oil and graphite on canvas, 72 x 72 in. ] "Kingswood mentions that his first exposure to abstract painting happened when taking an art history course during his two-year study at Beal Tech (now BealArt). He continued to paint as a naturalist for a number of years after that, but since that time he was frequently drawn to museum exhibitions by such abstract artists as Franz Klein, Marc Rothko, and Helen Frankenthal. At some point he found himself asking, What are these artists doing that I am not getting in my bird paintings? Such inner questioning persisted through the years until finally, in 2006, Kingswood took an abrupt turn and began to paint only abstract work."

Is there a piece of public art in London Ontario (or your town) that you are especially fond of? As controversial as they have been since they were created in 2007, I have always really appreciated these beautiful Carolinian Forest pieces by Bill Hodgson. For me these are iconic of London, and I was delighted when these blue beauties were installed near York and Wellington last year, near where I live! [Image: https://zcu.io/Czvz]
