Violence against women and girls is a human rights violation and an issue too often overlooked in this current pandemic. Global data shows gender-based violen...ce is intensifying. Canada’s humanitarian funding needs to be better allocated to support women to not only stay safe, but to lead their community in recovering. Because women lead in crisis.

Forcing Black and Brown folks to choose between life and livelihood is a racist, colonial tactic, says MacGillivray. Industries ganging up to push through exemptions that will reap more profit and cost workers their safety from both the danger of the machines and COVID-19 that they then take home to their families and communities is racist. The ramifications of this system range from worsening climate crises to adverse health effects that disproportionately impact racialized communities. Industrial agriculture and the industrial supply chain has historically led to negative impacts on the air, water, and soil, and subsequently the nutrition of many of this land’s inhabitants, says Anderson. https://www.mic.com/p/our-food-system-is-broken-racist-meet

In the past three years, Africa Centre has undertaken circles of conversation on racisms and race relations across the province. The project included facilitating community dialogues to create a platform that enables healthy conversations about racism and experiences of discrimination. Series of Community dialogues were convened in Calgary, Edmonton, and Fort MacMurray, and the intent of these series were to create awareness raising both among the black communities and the ma...instream at large. Africa Centre and CFRAC have partnered in this roundtable to inform the public about race relations and present some of the community experiences that have been collected throughout this project. Join our online round-table as we discuss the results of this project with our guest speakers Dunia Nur, President of the African Canadian Civic Engagement Council, Susan Cambridge, CEO of CAS Events Consultancy Ltd., and Sharif Haji, Executive Director of the Africa Centre.
