Important issue for our community. Centreton Men's Shed began as a response to it.

This past year I became involved in the local chapter of Men’s Shed. A Men’s Shed is a welcoming, supportive place for friendship and fun to combat loneliness, isolation and depression. Today, there are over 2,000 Men’s Shed groups throughout the world. For more information on Men’s Shed refer to: http://menssheds.ca Janelle Eisler of Cobourg based Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre talked to our members about how Cornerstone helps hundreds of women and children... in our communities by providing shelter and counselling each year. There are 21 beds within Cornerstone with two-thirds being funded by the Province. Money needs to be raised each year to finance the additional beds. In 2019, there were 69 women and 47 children receiving much needed support from Cornerstone. Sadly, 118 women and 28 children had to be turned away due to capacity. Their annual fundraiser is called Walk-A-Mile which normally includes all those signing up to walk a mile, wearing RED high heel shoes through the downtown of Cobourg! But due to Covid, this year’s walk is virtual. The members of Men’s Shed, Centreton are intending to walk in our work boots (perhaps with a strip or two of RED duct tape on them) along County Road 22 in Northumberland County. Our 5-km walk takes place between County Roads 23 and 45. We will walk between 10 and 11 AM on Saturday September 26. We have all contributed registration fees to participate but are contacting our family members, neighbours and friends to support our efforts as well. This is the main fundraiser for Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre and we intend to show our support for them this particular year. If you wish to sponsor me and my colleagues for our upcoming walk of 5 km on September 26, please refer to the following website https://www.canadahelps.org/gp/83234/ and consider making a donation. Thank you. Regards Bill
