Please see below Email sent from OFA. No club fencing allowed. Next update from them will be May 29 with potential opening date of June 1st. Dear clubs, We hope that you are having a wonderful long weekend!... The OFA understands that clubs and members are eager to restart, but emphasizes that this must be done slowly, safely, and in a way that does not increase the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The recent announcement lists fencing as a sport that can be played under physical distancing measures this is an incorrect assessment. In line with other sports in the same announcement (Gymnastics, Badminton, Figure Skating, Track & Field), the OFA does not recommend any clubs to reopen at this time. Further direction will be provided by May 29, 2020, regarding clubs potentially opening in a limited fashion on June 1, 2020. Any club who chooses to reopen in the interim will be doing so without OFA sanction, will not have access to the OFA insurance policy, and may lose their status as a club in good standing. The OFA reminds that all clubs and members must also adhere to the Quarantine Act (Canada), the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (Ontario), as well as municipal bylaws and facility rules in place to COVID-19 physical distancing and public or private gatherings. Failure to abide by these federal, provincial, or municipal requirements may result in legal prosecution by the government. As we have said in our previous email, the OFA Medical & Health Committee, consisting of several qualified COVID-19 response team members, is developing a Return to Play Protocol that prioritizes the safety of our members, and follows current information published both by Ontario Public Health as well as the MHSTCI. This will be published as soon as it has been approved. In the interim, the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario has shared a preliminary Risk Assessment Tool for Sport document. Please use this to do an initial assessment of your club's status, and begin to plan your return to play protocol with the safety of your club members in mind. Note that the Risk Assessment Tool and the OFA Return To Play Protocol, while serving as guidelines, must both be followed to ensure that clubs re-open in a low-risk, safe manner. Please encourage your members to join the virtual Strength & Conditioning, as well as Footwork classes provided by the OFA to stay fit while we stay at home. All classes are free to OFA members and family, so register today! Stay safe, stay healthy, and have a great long weekend! -- Kristina Han Administrative Director Ontario Fencing Association

Hello CFA family, I hope this message finds you well during this fluid time of uncertainty as it pertains to COVID-19. I want to express my gratitude for you being a part of the Canadian Fencing Academy and putting your trust in us to support your fencing journey. Just like you, we have been monitoring the situation closely and are hoping that this will pass quickly. We plan on following the government guidelines and will let everyone know immediately when we are able to r...e-open even if it is on a limited basis. If you would like to continue to practice at home, please contact our coaches. If you would like to purchase fencing equipment (including target spots or fencing dummies) to assist with home training please let Brily know and he can arrange things with you. With that said, we are a small business that is in no way immune to the economic impact of COVID-19. We are fully committed to supporting our coaches and members and will make any and all accommodations we are able to. We are hoping that the Government will provide our small business with assistance, but that is not guaranteed. The club still has rent and utilities and we would like to continue paying the coaches. Given the uncertainty of the situation, we would be massively grateful if you would consider helping us weather this storm by continuing your membership uninterrupted as we see how this situation unfolds. We completely understand that some of you are in a similar situation as we are, with your livelihood suddenly threatened. If that's the case we will put your membership ON HOLD immediately (this means that your membership will be immediately frozen and resume when the CFA is able to open) . Please reach out to us via email directly to Brily, who will process hold requests. Although we are hoping this situation will resolve quickly, we have no idea when this will happen. Thank you for your flexibility, understanding, and generosity as we endure this situation together. We will continue to do our best to update you on any new changes as the situation evolves. Of course, if you still choose to take advantage of the hold program, we completely understand and respect your decision. To be clear, you have two options going forward: 1. Contact us to put your membership On Hold (to resume when we are able to open) 2. Generously continue to support the CFA and our coaches by continuing with your membership while we are unable to open (you will always have the option to go On Hold at anytime if anything changes with you. Also you can assist our coaches by pre-purchasing future lesson sets. Please contact your coach directly. Thank you very much for your consideration and please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us with questions or concerns.
