Public Service Announcement: Memorial service flypast for the father of the modern #RCAF UPDATE: Unfortunately the Spitfire will be unavailable due to the col...d temperatures, but a CF-18 is still scheduled to pay tribute to LGen William "Bill" Carr, pending weather and operations. A Royal Canadian Air Force CF-18 fighter jet and a Second World War Spitfire aircraft from partner organization, Vintage Wings of Canada, will conduct separate flypasts in the National Capital Region on Saturday, October 31, 2020. The flypasts are scheduled to take place around 12:15 p.m. over Pinecrest Cemetery as part of the late Lieutenant-General (Lt.-Gen.) (Ret’d) William Bill Carr’s Memorial Service. The aircraft will conduct the flypast at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above the highest point of their route, before resuming a higher altitude for the remainder of their flight. The RCAF is honoured to participate in the late Lt.-Gen. (Ret’d) Carr’s Memorial service. This flypast holds special significance to the RCAF, as we pay tribute to the first Commander of Air Command, and a man who is often referred to as the father of the modern Royal Canadian Air Force. Flypasts and air demonstrations of Canadian Armed Forces aircraft are conducted in support of special events and are carefully planned and closely controlled to ensure public safety at all times, and are always done subject to weather and other operational considerations. The end of an era, and a transition to the future. As the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment (AETE) completes its move from 4 Wg Cold Lake to to co-locate... with the NRC in Ottawa, it is divesting its fleet of CT114 Tutor chase/utility jets to 431 Sqn. They will initially be moved to 8 Wg Trenton. There, some will enter long term storage for future use, others will likely be the lead aircraft in an exciting second round of cockpit modernization concurrent with conversion to Snowbird configuration. Today marks the last time Tutors will fly in the Tanked configuration. The long range fuel tanks added an additional 600 pounds of usable fuel. Unlike Snowbird Smoke/Diesel tanks, long range fuel tanks were able to be jettisoned in case of emergency.

This week some of our pilots flew two aircraft that look a little different than usual ...these shiny silver Tutors are being relocated from Cold Lake to Trenton for long term storage. They were previously used as test aircraft at the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment (AETE) #lookinggood #fuelfordays #rcaf #cfsnowbirds @erik_t_30 @reganwickett
