To end off this Family Week, we have some simple but fun game ideas for you and your family! The Minute to Win It TV show was full of many ways to have fun using items commonly found around the house. At the CFS office, we decided to have some fun one afternoon and play Nose Dive. The objective is to transfer the cotton balls from one plate to another using only your nose. Petroleum jelly is applied to the nose to help the cotton balls stick. Too little jelly, and the cotton ball won’t stick. But too much jelly, and the cotton ball won't fall off onto the plate. If this game doesn’t interest you, search the web for more Minute to Win It game ideas you can try with your whole family. There are endless opportunities for fun!

What is all the hype around self-regulation? Well.. let’s talk about it! Self-regulation is the ability to manage your emotions and behavior in accordance with the demands of the situation. It includes being able to resist highly emotional reactions to upsetting stimuli, to calm yourself down when you get upset, to adjust to a change in expectations, and to handle frustration without an outburst. It is a set of skills that enables children, as they mature, to direct their ow...n behavior towards a goal, despite the unpredictability of the world and our own feelings (Child Mind Institute, 2020). Much like reading and writing, self-regulation is a skill that is learned and developed over time as children grow. Some children may require a little extra support in this learning process, so, Cookie Monster is here to provide you with a fun self-regulation song! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CnJFOzzhAA If you have a child who experiences big feelings, has frequent emotional breakdowns, or who struggles with self-control, consider registering for Calming the Storm- an 8-week emotional regulation group beginning in October. Space still available in our 10-13yr old age group! Give us a call at 3306.244.7773 for complete details.
